Hi ladies, I have been on BCP for a good 12 years. I went on it when I was around 14 or 15 due to getting very ill every time I got my period, I wasn’t able to get out of bed for 1-2 days during my period so my mom sent me to the gyno and I have been on the pill ever since. I will be 28 in November so its been awhile! My original plan was to go off BCP after my wedding that way I could control when I would have my period (since I’m on the pill now its very regular and I don’t want it to show up while I’m at my wedding/on my honeymoon). Also, I’m worried that when I do get my period again it will be painful like it was back in high school and I don’t want to deal w that along w wedding planning stress anyway. I’ve been doing some research and I see that some people go off the pill and don’t even get their period for months afterwards. I’m wondering if I should go off sooner? I just really don’t want to be pregnant before my wedding…I am working hard to lose weight and I also want to have some wine at our wedding and on our dream vacation (honeymoon) I’m really torn on what to do. I want to be pregnant so badly and don’t want to have to wait months after the wedding to even try due to lack of period. Any advice? Thoughts? Experiences?

Why not just go off after the wedding? You don’t mention any reason you are in a rush to get pregnant, so why not stay on it until after the honeymoon and then stop? My doctor said to go off at least a cycle before TTC (which of course could be longer than a month), I have also heard 3 cycles, so I’m over shooting and planning to go off about 6 months before. At 28 it doesn’t sound like there is a big rush.
I’d be nervous to make that big of a change right before the wedding, especially since it’s working fine for you. I was even able to shift my period back so I wouldn’t have it at the wedding or honeymoon.

stay on it until after the wedding. i just stopped taking bcp and had some slight skin issues. not really on my face, but more on my body (which is strange for me). nothing terrible but not something I would want to be dealing with or trying to cover up on my wedding day.
Everyone’s body adjusts differently to the lack of hormones, but I would be a little too worried about it to make the switch before hand!

My period didn’t start until after 47 days from taking my last pill. I was on BCP as long as you were. My cramps were something horrendus too – I would wait until after if it was me. Couldn’t imagine dealing with wedding planning and that at the same time.

Got it, thanks for the advice! I do not want horrible cramping or skin issues pre wedding. Thanks ladies!
