Okay so yes I've been dress shopping 6 times but 3 of those times were to re-try on dresses for mom's and mohs. Well my last dress shopping trip was to the Running of the Brides in Atlanta and it didn't go too well. Like I only tried on maybe 5 dresses the whole 4 hours. I'm scared that I'm not going to find anything I like enough to buy.

This weekend my mom, moh little sis, and I are going dress shopping in a city 2 hours away. I have appointments at two different shops but found out yesterday that two of the main dresses I was going to try on have been sold off the floor! I don't know what to do. My first appointment is where the two dresses were at so I'm really just going up there to see a few others. The second appointment is the one that I'm really nervous about because it's basically a sample sale and if I find a dress I love then I pay for it and take it home that day. But my stumbling block is what if I find a dress that I like but I will never know if I would have liked the other two from the first shop better since they aren't there to try on!

What should I do ladies? Should I even go to the first shop at all?

This is the dress I was drooling over but won't be able to try on because it was sold off the floor.

I would go to both places.  You never know, you might put one on and fall absolutely in love.  Then it won't matter to you that you didn't try on these other dresses.  My cousin and I went to 23 different shops in five different states.  I was so ready to just pick a dress for her to end the madness.  We were driving through a town and saw a bridal store not on our map but we walked into this little tiny rundown shop and she tried this dress on and fell in love.  It made her look and feel incredible. We bought it that day and took it home.  She never looked back or thought of another dress again.

Hasn't happened for me yet but it could happen to you.

Look at it as a quest- seeking the Holy Grail.  Due to my business I travel all over the US and I have simply started walking into salons and saying "what do you have in stock, right now, that fits me". Try EVERYTHING on.  You will know it when you wear it.... Dont take it too seriously.  A dress will appeal to you.

By the way- I think I have officially visited 40 salons, not counting davids bridal

Personally I believe that the more gowns you try on the more confusing it gets.  I think if you try on a few of every style {ball gown, mermaid, A-line, strapless, off the shoulder, with train, without train, beaded, plain...etc} you start t get a rough idea of gowns that you prefer over others. Then you can filter out the styles you dont really love and focus on the few you like best this way you will go in knowing which styles to try on

I have a set style that I really like which is a modified A-line, lace, little to no beading, like the Justin Alexander above. My wedding is at my family ranch so I don't want it to be too heavy of material or too heavy on the beading. I want a really simple dress but something that's me. I'm really hoping that I find something at the second store that will make me forget all about the one pictured above. Wish me luck!

I think you need to scale down on the hoopla that may be distracting you from finding your dress. Going with other people with other purposes in addition to your agenda (MOB and MOH dresses) putting the pressure on with sample sales or Running of the Brides extravaganzas...no wonder you're in the 7th inning. Sloooow down, go to your two appointments, and let the dress come to you.

Dunno what to say except I completely empathize. Our big trip is next week and I'm just as confused. That Justin Alexander gown is gorgeous though...I hope it shows up in your trip after all. Then it's fate. :)

I just moved here from Montgomery, AL. :)

I tried on this dress at Etain's in Newnan, GA (south of ATL).  It was last year.  Loved it but I was way too short and busty for it.

Honestly, if you really want to try specific dresses, why are you wasting 4 hours when you know they aren't going to be there?  It sounds like you probably aren't going to be happy until you try it on, so I would try and find it somewhere within a traveling distance.  Alternatively, one of the local stores that carries JA may be able to "borrow" a sample from the designer.  You will probably have to pay $50 to $100, but guess how much a tank of gas is?

Well I'm still going to the appointment at 11 because they also carry Watters and Wtoo. There are several dresses in those lines that I would like to try on so we will see. I'm getting really excited about my second stop though because if I do find something I get to take it home with me tomorrow! Wish me luck girls! I will be back to post pictures if I do find a dress.

I found my Dress!!!!!!! And the best part is that it wasn't even one that I went up there to see! My mom pulled it out for me to try on and what do ya know, it was the one! I'm so in love with it and can't wait to have it! We are waiting to order it however just to see if we can find it used or something because it's more than I really wanted to pay. So without further adieu here she is...Going on my 7th dress shopping trip and I'm feeling doomed... : wedding Fl 1 Watters Lasara Size 6

@retreadbride: Agreed, it doesn't hurt to keep an open mind and try it all on. You never know if what you end up with will be something completely different than what you thought you wanted.

Thought I loved pick ups and an A-Line ended up with a more classic ball gown. It was just the one.
