I wanted the same thing - however finding a place near me to do it was a pain! No one wanted to step outside the cake pan....
I'm paying about $300-$400 for it. It's custom, all done up like a fishing scene to recreate a fish my FI caught when he was 12 - a 22lb carp. She's going to go all out - lots of detail...little him, BIG fish! I can't wait.
I should note that mine only has to feed about 40 people - though now thinking about it I should up that........
My Fi went to University of Florida, so I'm doing something around that and I'm paying $500.
thanks, sweeney and missy! ours is for 40 people also (to be served at the rehearsal dinner), so i'll shoot for the $300-500 mark.

sorry if this is a double post -- the first one didn't work!
i'm wondering how much is normal for a grooms cake? i'm looking at getting a grooms cake that's very "duff goldman-esque" -- a cake that looks like something else with lots of detail work in gum paste and fondant. if you don't mind sharing, how much did you pay?
