Why are you not taking a full course load? And are you able to take summer classes? I did a 5 year degree with only a few classes each semester by taking 2 courses each summer. It was great!

@mandy102:  I hear ya! I would suggest trying some night classes, online classes or summer classes. I know with ECE you have to do some placements, which will eat up a lot of time, but the courses around it shouldn’t be so bad! A lot of them, if you are reliable to do them online, say they should take 1-2 hours a day, but really take about 3-4 hours a week. I found them the easiest to do, as I was able to do a lot one day and nothing for a few days in a row without feeling behind.

When I went to school I worked 40+ hr weeks, so I understand how hard it can be to juggle it all! I think if I were to go back, I’d do more online, less in class (except for harder subjects, like psychology), and create a better balance for myself that way.

If you’re taking 2 classes a semester to get back into the hang of school, why not take more classes a semester after a semester or two since you’ll be back into the hang of it by then?

@mandy102:  I see many students go part time when they return from a break from school, and I think that’s wise. But you shouldn’t need to do that for more than one semester. I think you’ll surprise yourself with how quickly you get in the swing of it.

I know it seems like a long time but it will be totally worth it. You can do it!

Make sure you watch when your required classes are offered. Some classes are only offered once a year, so if you miss out on a class you could get yourself stuck. Better take the class and work through it as you go than be pushed back a year, especially if it’s a sequence.

I applaud your going back to school! in many ways I wish I had done the same, spaced things out a bit more and really focused on my studies and getting good grades. Hopefully after a semester or two you can asd another classes or so. Good luck to you! In the end it will be well worth it!
