I love jamaica! Congratulations :) Try all the local food that you can - that's my recommendation.
How exciting! We're going to Jamaica as well and staying at the Secrets in Montego Bay. I've a virgin traveler as well, just got my passport in fact! Enjoy!
Coffee with sweetened condensed milk is delicious....and blue mountain coffee is the best in the world, apparently according to 007.
Breadfruit is delicious and so is jerk chicken.
I was only moderately a fan of the ackee and saltfish
@troubled - ditto for the ackee and saltfish, though I was happy to eat it. I think I kept wishing the texture was different.
I LOVE the coffee there. Love it.
@miss snowflake - you might also want to try curry goat. Very delicious! We almost put in on our menu, but I thought it'd be too adventurous for too many of our guests. Better to try it for one meal than an entire buffet tray!
Miss Snowflake did you get travel insurance? If so, you should be able to call either your travel consultant or the insurance company in the event of a flight delay or something like that. It's important to note that flight schedules change constantly. So make sure that whoever you booked it with is staying on top of the changes. We frequently get changes that result in a mis-connect, and have to negotiate for better flights.
Breezes is a nice resort. We had a couple there last year that had a great time.
Have a great trip!!
Definitely try the Jerk Chicken and curried shrimp - some of the best food I've ever had was on my Jamaican vacation - enjoy!
Try a hummingbird. We fell in love with this drink when we were in Negril. They are so refreshing and tasty!
I just got back from Rose Hall Resort in Montego Bay where we are getting married in March. We went and tried it out first before booking it.
The women are so unbelievably cold and rude if you go off the resort. Just be prepared. I was not warned and got into a few arguements with some of them. I almost got arrested in the airport on the way home because i had pretty much had it by that point with the rudeness.
The food is AMAZING. Def try jerk chicken. Take lots of sunscreen (like spf 50-75) its that hot. (we went in April). The island is breathtaking, the men are so nice and accomodating, and just relax! :)
have fun!!!

We're finally going on our honeymoon! A year after the wedding, LOL. We are soooo excited... but I'm a virgin traveler! I've never been outside the 48 states! So I"m a little nervous. Not about the violence that's been happening (we will be on the exact opposite side of the island, and I'm sure it's tapered off) but about things like what do I take? What if we miss our flight? What if the resort lost our reservation? What if I forget to pack something important? Will we be able to buy things like band-aids and aspirin there?
We're staying at Breezes Runaway Bay, which is an all-inclusive. Has anyone been there, or to another resort in Jamaica? Experiences? Thoughts? Thanks!
