Oh Mitla, not all of these occasions result in horror stories! So far, my guest list work with my FILs has gone SO smoothly!

You are so welcome!!! Just be patient with your FMIL, and if she has any additions, try to compromise. But also don't let her walk all over you. It's important for you two to work out the tone of your relationship now so she won't feel like she can strong-arm you throughout your marriage. But I wouldn't even be worried about that yet....sounds like she likes you!!!
It went well! As it turns out, FMIL ended up cutting our list down and eliminated some distant cousins & people we haven't met as a couple. She added about 3 of her friends that she really likes. So we ended up with a smaller guest list! Of course, she might think of some additional people in the next few weeks, but so far it seems fine.
@Gemstone: Yes, my in-laws are awesome (they are about 80 years old, btw; a big age difference but I love to listen to them tell their stories)... they've always been so nice to me but I was worried about some last minute drama. Hopefully none will crop up in the 4 months we have left!

In an hour or two, we're meeting with FH's parents to finalize the guest list. I've heard so many horror stories, and I find myself feeling really nervous! Wish me luck, ladies! FMIL has been quietly hinting about some additions to the list.
For the record, FMIL has been wonderful to me since the day we met, but apparently there are some strong-willed tendencies under the surface that I've only heard about, but never witnessed. I try to be insightful and tell myself that if we clash, it's only because we must be so much alike! ;)
