Hello! My SO and I are off to Mexico in 2 days (eek) and I need to know if anyone has used the Mexico phone plan thing from Verizon at all? I know they have several plans where you can add minutes, text, data…but I’m wondering if I should just stick to wifi and use my phone sparingly. The thing is, I’m pretty sure he will propose on this trip, so I will be obviously be texting/calling. We are taking our iPad as well, so we can use Skype, but any other suggestions or advice would be helpful!

We went to Cabo for a week last year (where my husband proposed!), and we just went ahead and activated the cheapest international option. They charge a minimum amount for texts and you have X amount of data allowance (sorry, don’t remember off the top of my head). We tried to use wifi whenever possible and we turned off roaming data (think of how often your phone automatically updates your email, facebook, etc!) so we didn’t get dinged for its use. After the proposal, I made a few short calls, did some facebook updating, and it wasn’t bad at all, money wise. Just make sure to cancel it once you get back home.
