Hi Ladies – I will admit that i have never had any willpower or motivation when it comes to working out. I don’t consider myself fat or big (I am a size 4), but over the last two year I have definitely become more of a couch potato and not in the best shape. My own fault of couse.
Well I got my wake up call today, had my first dress fitting with my beautiful wedding dress and it was a tad snug. The seamstress will let out an inch on both sides of the hips and the back where it zips at the top so I am glad that it’s fixable. I’ll be honest though, I didn’t love how I looked in the dress, its a fit and flare silhoutte and as you know, you gotta have the figure to pull it off. So I am heading to my first Zumba class to get off my butt and get a cardio workout. Keeping fingers crossed that this and maybe some pilates classes (which I had taken a few years ago) thrown in will help me drop a pound or two and get my thighs/tummy/hips toned a bit more over the next 3 weeks…..wish me luck!

good luck! Started Zumba about 2 months ago and love it. There are good and not so good instructors, so if you don’t love the first class maybe try a different place or instructor. My place is starting to do this thing called “Piloxing” which is AWESOME too. It’s like cardio kick boxing, zumba, and pilates all in one and boy does it work the butt!! You can also get little arm weights that you wear like gloves to help tone the arm muscles!! (this is going to be my next purchase)

Enjoy your zumba!!!!!!!! Don’t get frustrated if you can’t follow the coreography right away though…It takes some time to learn the moves!

Zumba is so much fun and you will get a great workout. As stated before dont get frustrated if you cant follow the move just “KEEP MOVING”!!!!!

thanks Ladies! I went to the class last night, and came back drenched. It was good overall, something I’ll try again. I kept up with most of the routine, although sometimes I made up my own steps, lol, but less concerned about that and more so that I am getting a good workout. Not as sore as I thought I would be this morning, so I’ll have to do better at my next class. 🙂
I will have to look into Piloxing, never heard of that, sounds like it would be beneficial.

I’m totally in the same situation as you – I wouldn’t consider myself fat or anything and in fact (please don’t judge) i’m usually a street size 0 (i’m also like 5 feet tall so I’m pretty short) but recently I went on the scale and realized I’ve gained 10 pounds (10!!) in the past year or so! It totally upset me and I know by no means am I in a bad place, but I think everyone should follow their own standards. I just wanted to get into a routine that made me feel better and more active, so I took up Zumba about a few months ago and I LOVE IT!
I’ve been doing Zumba 2x a week and the Bar Method (it’s like pilates but much more challenging) for a few weeks now consistently and can really really see results! I swear it’s the combination of cardio and toning. My belly pooch has really gotten toned up and I sleep better at night, wake up more energetic and even feel more balanced when I walk!
If you’re interested in Pilates, i HIGHLY recommend the Blogilates Youtube videos – her workouts are really challenging and harder than a lot of the pilates classes in my equinox gym!
Good luck – I’m sure you will look gorgeous in your wedding dress!

@lilcshelli: Is the Bar Method a class? If so, does it go by any other names? We’re overseas and I started Zumba last week and LOVE it. I have way more energy….sometimes not a good thing for me. But I’m wanting to strengthen my abs….we have something called Legs, Bums, and Tums.

@lilcshelli: Thanks for the tips and encouragement. I was able to get a few zumba classes in, I have one more week before the big day so I’ve been busy with last minute wedding stuff, but have been watching what I eat too. Also bought some control top underthingy’s, lol, anything to help right? Thanks and good luck with the classes, sounds like its really working for you. I heard about the Bar Method but don’t have time to sign up at this point, something to look into down the road. Given that you are a size zero you will look fabulous no matter what, now you will feel great as well! 🙂
