Here are some articles to bring wih you:
http://www.herecomestheguide.com/wedding-party-ideas/detail/questions-to-ask-your-location/
I was reading the brides magazine today at work and it said to ask to see a rundown of ALL charges and fees. sometimes they have a coat check fee or a cake cutting fee, that will jump your price.
@imalittlebirdie:True.
Also ask when final counts are due, if/when you can change it, what happens if you don't meet your minimums, what their drink options and prices are, when you'll be able to come in and decorate, when you have to leave the venue at night (public out and when you guys must finish cleaning), bringing in outside food, etc. Those are just a few off the top of my head.
Oh! Ask if you guys need to do the set up/tear down of the decorations/ centerpeices/ knicknacks. I know that at the place I work we set up and tear down, but I know that the venue down the road has the bride/family take down the decorations and such.
Ask who the point of contact would be for your day.
Someplaces take pictures of setups to show clients, ask if they have any.
Ask if there is a bartender/server fee.
Ask if gratuity is inclulded in the per person price.
Ask to see a mock up of their standard table setting?
If there is a hotel atached to the venue ask if there is a discount for oot guests staying at the hotel.
Ask if the rooms are smoke/pet friendly.
Ask if there is a corkage fee.
1. What is the service charge?
2. How much is cake cutting fee? (If cake is not included or if you want an outside baker)
3. How many bartenders will be working at each bar? (If you're going to have a bar)
4. Is security included?
5. What is the payment policy and deposit? How much of the deposit would you get back in the event of cancellation?
*There's a few more but it will come to you as you speak with the venue contact. Good luck!
Thank you ladies so much for all of your suggestions! I am planning essentially by myself (well with my adorable and clueless fiancé) so it is definitely going to be an experience. The venue I an looking at is actually a Victorian home set on a beautiful farm complete with a gazebo under which I plan to say I do!
Our venue visit was today and it was even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined...it is so perfect. I felt so comfortable after reading the articles and your advice! All of my questions were answered and we picked a date! September 29th 2012 I will marry my best friend!
@Coffee cup: Thank you! And it is! I am sooo in love! It has a huge beautiful gazebo (where we will say I do!!) and a beautiful brick patio on the back of the house that they cover with a lighted tent! The house is huge and the rooms are all open and it is amazing...I seriously cannot wait to get married now!

Okay Bees, Friday I am going to see my first (and really only) potential venue! I am quickly planning a wedding for May and they happen to have one Saturday left in May! But the reason I came to the boards is because I don't know what kinds of questions to ask the venue!
I feel so lost! So when you went to see your venue what kinds of questions or concerns did you ask about? Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!
