@katy13:  haha you’re welcome! You should also get a sample contract if you can, so that you don’t get your heart set on a venue without knowing some potentially deal-breaking fine print

Definitely figure out the fine print- is there a cake cutting fee, which decorations are not allowed (places usually have policies about candles), what time must the event start and end, can you extend this time, are you required to use them to cater, are you required to use only vendors from their vendor list, watch out for wheelchair accessibility if anyone will be in a wheelchair, what linens/ dishes/ chairs are included and how much does the upgrade cost, and what is the service charge? (that could increase all your food costs by 20%!). Also see what their maximum capacity is- that’s important for your guest list. My friend knew her max capacity was 125 so she had 125 guests, but they didn’t tell her the guests would be in two separate rooms of the same building for the reception- it was weird.
