When I go on vacation I bring a bathing suit for every day. I also revolve all my vacations around Scuba Diving so maybe that is why I bring so many swim suits.
Your FI is nuts. Is he bringing only 1 pair of board shorts?
For you I clicked the 2-4 button. For me? I'd be clicking higher than that! I don't like seeing the same bathingsuit in pictures as much as I wouldn't like looking like I only wore one outfit all week. And you get really up close and personal with your bathing suit in the hot sun.. Ha. Go get at least 2 more. Ex: try on a VIctoria's Secret halter top suit and if you like that, buy one in a solid color, and the other in a pattern!
And woo hoo on your honeymoon!!
I think you will be fine with one, especially if you dont want different tan lines from different suits. I brought 2 swim suits on my honeymoon only because I had them already and I change my mind often :)
At the very least you need 2- one to wear while the other is drying. There is nothing worse than putting on a damp suit!
I had 2, bought 2 and am debating about another one.
I'm bringing all the bikinis I own, which is about 7. H&M is having them on super sale right now, or you could hit Target or Old Navy for inexpensive suits.
I take 2 when i go for a week. I mean, are you going to wear a different swimsuit every single day? Don't you want only ONE set of tanlines, not a whole bunch of differnet weird ones overlapping?!
My husband only brought two pairs of swim trunks
Haha apparently i'm in the minority...i hope you don't why you overpacked
I usually bring one per day. I like to give myself options.
I actually have a funny story related to this. A few years back I was going on a week long resort vacation with my then boyfriend. I only had 1 or 2 bathingsuits that I liked/that fit so I set out to buy more so I'd have one for every day of the week. This was all on my poor college student budget. I did some very smart shopping and ended up packing 7 lovely suits. Well, when we got to the island, my luggage was lost and we didn't get it for a day and a half. So I ended up having to buy ANOTHER suit at the resort giftshop because it was so hot there. That suit ended up costing as much as all my other ones combined. Luckily my then BF was super generous and bought it for me, (it's still to this day one of my favorite suits.)
I would bring 3, but I think you could do with 2. I HATE putting on a wet bathing suit...gross! They usually take a day to dry depending on where you keep them. And then the extra is for the spa in the evening!
I also usually have a sportier one for watersports or things like that.
FI - totally crazy!
I suggest ordering a few of them online (Victoria's secret has some super cute ones) so you can try them on at home and not stress out and don't have to stress out your fiancee by dragging him to the store. He's not crazy, he just doesn't get it. Then, you can return what you don't like!
One is definitely enough, but I'd bring two, since I hate putting wet bathing suits on (I always rinse mine in the shower to get the salt/chlorine out, and it's not always totally dry in the morning). More than two is definitely too much...
We're going to Maui for a week and I'm bringing 3 bikinis. I like having options and my swimsuits never dry completely in one day... putting on a semi-wet bikini is yucky.
He's nuts, but is probably just because he doesn't want to go through the shopping drama =) For a whole week on the beach I'd definitely want more than one - I'll probably take 3-4 on my honeymoon.
I usually bring one for every day, because I <3 choices, haha.
I'd definitely bring more than one, though, unless you want to put on a wet swimsuit! They always take SO long to dry!
I'd bring 2 but have the same neckline. I am always each year a 2 swimsuit kinda chickie.
I'm funny about straps/tanlines too. Totally get that!
Congrats Redherring! Sounds wonderful!
I am going to the Riviera Maya for 7 days and I am on a constant bikini hunt! So far I have 4 but I really want to get more! I just don't tell anyone because everyone judges me "what the hell do you need so many bikinis for"?? For pictures you dummies, plus I hate doing laundry while on vacation!
I also really like choices. Victorias Secret has really cute bathing suits. I like to hoard them in the winter time when they're on crazy sale.
When we travel, I bring two swimsuits and FI brings one. Same goes for a week in the Caribbean or two weeks in the islands of Greece.
Now, I'd still want a second suit if I were you, just for fun, but I don't think your FI is nuts for thinking you only need one.
Kind of surprised to see everyone complaining about gross wet swimsuits - my bikinis never take more than a couple of hours to dry.
I can't imagine wearing the same swimsuit every day.... but then again where I live it's bikini season all year and I, like most people here, have a whole drawer full. Most are from Victoria's Secret, they're reasonably priced and pretty good quality. I say you need to snag at least one more, and I'm sure your FI is right about one thing -- that you look great in a swimsuit! :)
Everyone here is mentioning Victoria's Secret, but check out J Crew as well. I have 4 of their bikinis and i love them!
I live in florida so I have a TON of swimsuits. When I go on beach vacations I usually plan for 3 suits for 4 days. A lot of time they can take more than a day to dry so you want at least 2 for every 2 days.
I think 2 is the minimum but if I were you I would take at least 3. I am planning to take 3 on my mexico beach resort honeymoon.
I would bring at least 2. You can rinse one out after you swim and let it dry. While it is drying you can wear another one. If you need to order quality swimsuits that look super hot, I would suggest Victoria's Secret. They use high quality material that is cut well and they ship pretty quickly.
I voted 2 or 4. But that's based on how I roll.LOL I''m going on a 8 day cruise in June and I'm packing 3. I'll do different water excursions and I dont want to wear the same thing ALL the time.
I think your FI needs to pack more than one suit, just in case. But you know how men are.LOL
I took 3 for a week in Riviera Maya. And I made DH buy a second suit too. No one likes putting on a damp swimsuit, and you should scrub out the bottom with soap after you wear it.
I always bring like 4 or 5, but you need at least two. Because sometimes you go swimming and then you go back to your room or whatever and then go swimming later. I hate hate hate putting a wet suit back on.
I also second other's advice of finding one you like and buying different colors/patterns. I have several of the same swimsuit from J. Crew because I love it so much! I also recommend VS and I think they are having a huge swimsuit sale right now.
@jennychicago - haha! your comment made me laugh - For pictures you dummies! Last night my husband said the same thing about a shirt I packed for him - he swapped it out b/c he didn't want to be in pictures wearing the same shirt he wore last time we went to the island, hahaha. I totally get it!!
don't bring him along! enlist your MOH or a BM to help, and everyone will have fun.
We are going to the Riviera Maya for 10 days and I'm bringing 3 suits. I also plan to buy a new one on Playa Del Carmen while we are there. You are most likely going to spend more time in your swimsuit than in regular clothes. Would you even consider bringing only one set of clothes?
I would definitely recommend at least bringing 2 or 3. And - don't bring your FI! if he's anything like mine, he probably dreads that kind of shopping. I also get VS suits and usually buy a new one every year of the same type just different color/pattern. Target always has a really good selection too and they are cheap. Unfortunately I'm a little busty and they aren't really supportive so I stick with VS.
I'm going to Kauai for 12 days for my honeymoon and plan on bringing at LEAST five suits. I'd say 3 or 4 would certainly be reasonable in your case!
Also - don't forget swimsuits start going on sale LONG before summer is over, so you don't even have to buy something right now!
Ummm, yeah, I brought 9 bathing suits for the 7 day trip to Cancun. Reason for my excess, I didn't know what mood I'll be in.
Plus, ever since high school I used to buy a new bathing suit every year until a few years ago, so I definitely have a bunch that I still fit.
If I only had 4 bathing suits before my hm, I would only probably go out and buy one more. But since I had so many in my wardrobe, I brought them all. haha
My DH brought I like 3 or 4 swimming trunks. My DH does not like getting into damp swim trunks from the day before that's why he brought extras. He didn't go out and buy these swim trunks. I bought one new one for him and one new one for me for our hm.
Here's a solution...interchangable tops and bottoms!
You can get the same neckline in different designs or colors so your tanlines will be the same. They'll look like different suits and you're ultimately taking up less precious suitcase space!
Meowkers, I totally know how you feel! I too bought a handful of new suits at the end of last summer (hello clearance) for my trip this past April only to lose my luggage and have to buy a suit at the resort. The selection was minimal but it cost twice as much as I would normally pay for a bikini. Luckily for me, the airline reimbursed. It was miserable having only one bathing suit for 6 days, especially knowing I had 4 new ones sitting in a bag.
If you like to be in the water, I would suggest at minimum 2 because one won't dry overnight.
I normally take 3 or 4 for a week long beach vacation. Normally I end up sticking with just 2 of them, but I like having the option :]
ok, i voted for just 1 but after reading all the advice about needing another one while the first one dries, I change my vote to 2-4. I actually had 2 in mind to pack (we're leaving in a week for ours, getting married next saturday, can;t wait!!!!) but the 2nd one was only for the day we do a sea tour and go to the mud baths. but now i think i'll bring a few more! I have one suit that is the most amazing suit ever, and it was going to be my uniform the whole time but all these girls are right: swim suits are never dry by the next day! I did not even think about that! So thank you everyone, I got this bit of advice just in time :)

My fiance and I booked our honeymoon today to an all-inclusive resort in the Bahamas (EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!). We'll be staying for a week, and I currently have only one swimsuit, due to overwhelming anxiety when it comes to the wretched combination of fitting rooms + bikinis. And even that one was only purchased after my fiance reassured me 2981 times that I looked good. When I warned him that we'd need to endure shopping for additional swimsuits, he looked at me like I was insane, as he didn't understand why in the world I would need more than one. So, am I crazy? I can't quite imagine hanging out in the exact same bikini for a week, but maybe I'm just weird.
