Wear something that’s eash to put on and take off (including shoes). Do your hair and makeup reasonably nicely – the first time I went dress shopping is been caught in the rain and it’s hard to feel pretty in a dress when you look like such a mess.

@mrsmeyers84:  Just remember to have fun and don’t stress! I’m around the same size as you and I was terrified nothing would fit (most stores only carry samples and in limited sizes). Some of the dresses I pulled fit and some didn’t – the first one that didn’t fit kinda upset me, but then I decided that I was going to have fun not matter what and if that one didn’t work, well on to the next one!

You will be in a room, half (or fully lol) naked with a total stranger – so make sure that what you’re wearing underneath you’re comfortable with. I ended up taking my bra off completely because it was causing issues. But I will say the best thing I wore to my appointments was a pair of Spanx tights – like full leg, covered my feet tights. They held me in place, gave me some sense of modesty, and I didn’t feel gross walking around barefoot. I’m weird about being barefoot in places other than my home though haha!

Have so much fun and congrats!!

Bring lots of pictures of what you do and don’t like

Dont bring a large entourage. I would suggest trying to keep it to 2-3 people max. Too many people makes it impossible.

wear good foundation garments. A solid bra and control top panty if you have it.

Remember to eat breakfast!! it gets hot in those rooms!!!

Ultimately try to remember it’s YOUR dress and how you feel about/in the dress is what matters

@mrsmeyers84:  I know!! You would think if there was ever a time for vanity sizing…

I actually don’t know what my bridal size is because I ended up finding a sample the I was in love with that was marked 75% off what I would have paid for it brand new. So I didn’t go through all the measuring and sizing. Though I had looked at some bridal size charts for designers I was interested in and it was a crazy huge range! Depending on the designer, I could be anything from a bridal 16 all the way to a bridal 24! It really is frustrating!

I definitely agree with PP- good foundation garments, hair and makeup done, even if only lightly. I also recommend taking water with you- I so wish I had done that!

Don’t say no to something just because you don’t like it on a hanger. You’d  be surprised what can look good!

Most of all, have fun!!

Do your hair & makeup… it’ll make you look and feel pretty.

Wear non-skimpy underwear so you don’t feel self conscience.

Bring supportive people who will give you HONEST opinions.

As for the dress size.. the shop should ask you what size you typically wear in jeans and give you dresses based on your answers, if they don’t fit they will adjust and find others.

@mrsmeyers84:  That will be so much fun!! I wish I had been able to go to one of those – it’s such a wonderful cause!

I’m sure they will have someone who can help you out as far as sizing. I will say that the more high end the designer (think Vera Wang, Lazaro, etc.) the bigger the size for me according to the size charts. In designers like Pronovias and Essence of Australia and similar, I was closer to my normal street size – maybe a size or two up (I’ve got some hips on me though haha).

Have so much fun and post some pictures!
