You can try a softer hold hairspray to keep the touchable aspect. Moroccan Oil has a great one (little pricey around $20), for cheaper option, Garnier's Bamboo hairpsray in a #3 hold in my experience, is very movable as well.
"Whenever I have my hair done professionally with hairspray it seems to get tangled and messy and the curls either stick together or drop. "
I would recommend looking for another hairdressed because your curls should not be tangled and messy because of hairspray.
Also on your wedding day you will be moving a lot and hugging a lot of people and while your curls may hold regularly, I would worry that with everything going on your hair would fall flat. Like pp mentioned, you can probably try a lighter hold hairspray.
Thanks for your replies! I've used a few different hair dressers and never had a good experience with hairspray. I'll definitely look into softer hold hairsprays. I'm going for natural loose curls so I'm not too worried if it drops a little. I can normally sleep with my hair curled, get up the next day and brush it out, then gently separate and reform the curls with my fingers. Curls usually last up to 3 days in my hair unless they get wet.
@Kimmy13- Ok I am officially jealous of your hair! I would be lucky if my curls last for a couple of hours. I can't even sleep on a blowdry and not have to do it all over again in the morning.
@roxy821: Haha thanks! My hair has its moments... Sometimes I love it and other times I'd love to trade it in for something finer and silkier! Although fine silky hair doesnt hold curls well!
I don't like hairspray and never use it. My hair curls all the time and I don't want it to lol so if I want my hair a little curly on my wedding day I just have to sleep with it wet XD
You actually may not need to use a lighter hairspray.... I have really crazy, frizzy, wavy hair and I bought hairspray just for my wedding.... It was a really strong hold yet still was touchable and soft. I don't know anything about getting hair curled though....
This is what I used: http://www.tresemme.co.uk/Products/Styling/Superior-Hold/
You just need a lighter hairspray. I would recommend using hairspray because of how much you'll be moving around.
My friend used to be in pageants and she said all of the girls used "Freeze It" Mega Super Hold hairspray: http://m.cvs.com/mt/www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_product_detail.jsp?skuId=312564&productId=312564&WT.mc_id=Shopping_Feed_Products_Google_Free_Listing
I use it and I love it. You can also get it at Walmart. It doesn't make my hair crunchy at all and holds my hair very well.
Good luck!! :)

I am considering not wearing hairspray on my wedding day. I'm not sure how happy my hairdresser will be about it but the more I think about it, the more I think I just want to have nice soft, touchable hair on my day. I curl my hair quite often and the curls hold well. I never use hairspray when I do it myself. Whenever I have my hair done professionally with hairspray it seems to get tangled and messy and the curls either stick together or drop. I'll probably have soft curls pinned half up, in a loose, natural kind of way. So what does everyone think? To hairspray or not to hairspray? Are there any brides out there thinking the same thing, or did anyone choose not to use hairspray on their day?
P.S. my hair looks a lot like this when curled...
