@Yellow.Clover:  I’ve done injections before when I did IUI w/my exH….5 months in a row! OUCH!!! I just did them again for my IVF cycle. I’ve never been to a class nor did I have any experience w/giving myself injections.

My European RE’s nurse just showed me where to do the shots and since they are now a premeasured dosage all I had to do was twist the cap to the desired ML and put the needle on. If you are doing them where you have to pull the liquid out of the vial, it’s still easy to do but takes more “prep” work.

My secret is to PINCH as much as possible and stick that needle in. I honestly don’t really feel it…I did brace myself against the kitchen counter so I wouldn’t “pull away” from the needle.

The other meds the doc gave me (to trigger the ovulation) were a thicker needle so I felt them more and I had a burning sensation around the injection site. My RE said it was normal. Honestly if I can do them, anyone can b/c I’m the biggest chicken s**t that ever lived! Hope that helps!!!! GL to you!

I had to give myself an HCG trigger shot which involved mixing up two different liquids to make the medicine and then drawing up the me decline into the needle and then giving myself the shot. A nurse gave me a lesson and I had to give myself a practice shot (just saline). The lesson really helped to calm my nerves, but I’m sure I could have learned the process by watching a video. I know you are excited to start this next step, so I think that you should go ahead with the injections without taking the class.  While the lesson will probably be helpful, it’s not worth delaying your plan. Also, I was the hugest wuss about the shot first time around, but it was no big deal the second time I had to do it. I was a bit sore at the injection site for a couple of days after.  You can do it! I’m so excited to follow your journey!

@Yellow.Clover:  Are you using the Gonal-F pens?  They are pretty much made to be user-friendly for lay people, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.  I had never used a medication pen before so definitely had to watch the video to learn how to do it, but it wasn’t too hard.  The videos on the Freedom Fertility website are really good and detailed — check them out.

We had a lesson,  but our lesson was just with our nurse in her office,  not abig formal class.  is that an option for you?  But even with that,  we watched the freedom videos,  then followed along with the video the first time we did it.  Gonal is super easy and doesn’t hurt at all.  There was once when dh couldn’t do it so I did it myself,  but it was just gonal so it was a non issue.

I just got my injectables and I believe we are on the same medication with the pen thing.  It looks easy .  Iam watching the online class tonight but my nurse said it really is a walk in the park and since you have your aunt even better!

I’ve done them three times now and none of the times did anyone give me lessons or show me what to do. I got a booklet from them but ended up looking at videos on youtube. Gonal F with or without the pen is easy.

i didn’t have burning with that. It’s the Ganerelix that sucks 🙂

Don’t stress! The link below is a great resource to have on hand because when you add more meds or are busy it’s nice to be able to look over and have a quick refresher. After you mix the meds once the vial last a time or two but really, it’s Easy. No one even told me what to do.

All the pointers on how to make it quick or not hurt as badly I found out online 🙂
