When you say "affordable" what price point are we talking? Affordable photography could mean $500 or 1500... or even $2500... :-)
This photog was recommended by a friend, she used to live in my college town up until last september or so! She seems good. Her prices start at $2000, might be a little steep for you!
Oooh - LaborOfLove - my photog just moved to Charleston! you should check him out! Sorry, i just love his work too much :-) http://www.timwill.com
KLP I am actually looking for a photog! Thank you for this suggestion!!!
No prob - you can check his blog too at http://www.timwill.com/blog :-) Um, he's not "budget" though, but worth EVERY penny!
My photographer is Rachel Naft and we found her to be quite affordable. We booked her services in 2009 so I don't know if her rates have changed, but her prices started at $1350 then. www.rmnphotography.com
Read my post here. I love my photog, he is great and his assistant is his wife and they are so cute!
We're using: http://landmhewitt.com/ And so far she's been great! I mean, all we've had is a phone consult and an in person meeting... but I can keep you updated and let you know how the (May) wedding pictures turn out :) And she's definitely affordable since that was our key criteria (broke college student budget here.)
I don't know what affordable is to you, but check out www.wanaimage.com ...his prices are between 1000-4000...
The one great thing about him was he was there for unlimited time! it was great...AND he did our "first look" photos days later for free! because we didn't have time to the day of...
Have you checked out Abby Jiu? She did my bridal portrait shots in this post:

My favorite DC photographer is Kea Taylor of Imagine Photography. She is great, and I'm using her for my Philadelphia wedding in October.
Check out www.imaxpix.com he travels from MD and has a great eye. Price starts at around $1,500 or so

She's currently in Atlanta, but will be moving back to DC soon.
Our photographer was Square Root of Red Photography and she did a great job and the prices were very reasonable.
I'm in Baltimore and I used http://www.erinwhitneyphoto.com/
I thought she was great, young, fun, and put me and my fiancee at ease. Engagement photos start at $100 and weddings start at $1000. We just did our e-session and will probably do a trash the dress or day after session.

I went to college with Lisa and she is wonderful. She lived across from me in the dorms and used to take pictures of the dance team that I was in for practice. I still have those pictures because they were gorgeous. She is a husband and wife team. I would have had them do our wedding but we are having a destination wedding and I knew it would be difficult for them.
I'm not getting married until July but my sister got married earlier this month and we both used/are using Exclamation Imagery. I think her coverage was about $1800 for 9 hours, an assistant and full rights to pictures.
I haven't actually used my photographer yet, but so far I really like him: http://www.jasonweilphotography.com/index2.php
Rachel Naft, http://www.rmnphotography.com/, is a really talented and affordable photographer... and she's just an awesome person! Highly recommended!
My wedding is not until August and we did not do e-pics (so I don't have any of my own photos to show you), but we just met with Gabe Aceves. We both liked his photos, and he seemed professional, nice, and reasonably priced.
We loved our photgrapher, Cassidy Duhon...he's fun, does amazing work and is affordable.
