Just wondering if anyone else has a pic. of their ring on their 7+ size fingers. What size carat do you think looks good? I can't help feeling my .5 carat makes my larger fingers a little larger...

Mine ring size is 7.25 and honestly I don't know why...I don't feel like my fingers look all that big, but apparently they ARE!  My rings looks alot smaller on my hand then they would on someone else's. Center stone is .90ct princess cut for comparison purposes. I do have arthritis in my hands already and wonder if that is why my fingers are bigger? Regardless...

I'm not married yet, but had to try on the band with my e-ring once I had it reset from a solitaire to a 3 stone, this photo is a little small, but you can tell the ring looks small on my fatty fingers.

My baby sister's ring is a 3 stone 1.5 carats. Her ring size is 7.75. My ring is a 3 stone 2.5 carat ring (no pics). My ring size is 8.5. I asked for a larger sized ring b/c I have fat fingers.

    Here is my sister's ring....

I wear a size seven ring finger and I own a lot of rings in all shapes and sizes.  I find that the size of the stones doesn't make the finger look larger as much as the width of the band and the size of the band.  If the band is too tight and makes you get muffin top on either side, it's going to make (1) the stone look smaller and (2) the finger look larger.  If the band is a very narrow band it can make the stone look larger but it can also make the finger look larger.  I know I really like the look of my E-ring stacked with my wedding band because it is a wider look - which is more proportionate for my finger.  Everyone's finger shape and length are different - it's very dependent!

MrsK2Be...you are SO correct about the muffin top thing. I actually ordered my ring .25 larger to be truthful...I just don't like them to fit too tight, the jeweler wanted me to get a 7 but I didn't want to. I don't like anything tight, I even wear large or even men's pj's to bed because I like them to hang off my hips and don't want anything tight around my waist. Hehe.

    LOVE your rings!!!!!

Student Bride, I like your band...that's really pretty!

    @crebre: I'm shameless... I know!!!

Admittedly though, sometimes I get bored with looking at them everyday and then when I post them it gives me a renewed sense of appreciation  for some reason :)

I have a 7 or 8 i can't remember, but i have a 1 ct princess and i think it looks perfect on my hand. I too was silly and worried that too small of a ring would look bad on my fat little fingers ;p

I had the opposite issue, but what the ladies are saying makes sense. Wide bands for thicker fingers, and that matters more than the stone size.

My ring size is 4, and I told my FI he wasn't ALLOWED to get me anything larger than .65 carat because it would look ridiculous on my tiny hand. I think he was relieved.

Judging from some of the pics and numbers I think you should tell your future FI a minimum of .75 carat with side stones and/or a wide band.

Ottowa, your ring is so perfectly proportionate and the symetry really looks good.

Thanks everyone for all that input. When I go to try on wedding bands I always have to put them on my pinkie and I do thing my band is delicate enough that on hot days I get "muffin top"! Def. getting a wider and thicker wedding band bc let's face it, they might get bigger when Im expecting.

My ring is the same tcw as my MOH but her finers are two sizes smaller and her ring looks huge on her hands.

Apparently larger fingers run in my family bc my grandma was a farmer :(

I wish she was a seamstress.

esrockhold: I totally relate with your dilemma.  When other people (my Mom, BF, etc.) with smaller fingers try on my wedding rings, my rings look huge!!! It's not fair!!!!

However, I feel good that atleast I didn't get my Dad's family genes...it could be worse.  I wear a 7 (probably a 7.25 while PMSing :).  But all my aunts and my grandma wear a size 10-11!!!!! Now THAT is big!  It is so hard for them to find jewelry that can be sized that big...wouldn't that suck!?!?  So, I guess we don't have it ALL that bad ;)

oh, and P.S. I know you're frustrated that you can't try wedding bands on your ring finger.  But if it makes you feel any better, i didn't get to try on my actual wedding band until it was already made/purchased because I had one custome made.  So the only thing I ever got to see was a wax mold!  I promise you can find a great wedding band even if you have to "eyeball" it in the store!  Good Luck!

I'm a ring size 7.5, and I swear to god that I have little smokey sausages for fingers. My diamond is .85 (I think?), and admittedly it does looks small sometimes. But with asscher cuts, it's about quality vs. quantity!

There are so many incredible rings out there! I think my ring is too big. It's only 1 ct, but my finger is a size 4 1/2! But FI was really proud of it, and I'm getting used to it. It's a beautiful solitare. My friends totally make fun of me for it, partly because i'm the first to get engaged and partly because it looks silly-big. I think any size rock on any size finger is beautiful!

I never realized that my fingers were that big until I started getting interested in rings, but I suppose it makes sense since I'm 5'9"!  My big fingers definitely make stones look smaller!

I'm still getting used to my 1.5 carat stone, but I really like it.  My fingers are big enough that I don't think they're overwhelmed by it.

It's also important to keep in mind that sapphires are denser than diamonds or moissanite, so a sapphire of about .75 carats will look smaller than a diamond or moisssanite of about .75 carats. I'm not sure how they measure up to other stones....  Also, diamonds are also a bit denser than moissanite, if memory serves.

There are my 2 cents about alternative gems and carat weightSmile
