    Hello Bees,

    I am thinking about trying to get into a new career.  I currently work as a preschool teacher at a center very close to my house. I love the people I work with and I enjoy being around the children, (even though I teach 2 year olds and they are crazy! sometimes I have 12 at a time! AHH!!) I want to start a family very soon but I don't feel comfortable with my wage now. I can't go up from where I'm at unless I go to school for education. I need a new career I can progress in! Please help me with ideas!!!

    Nursing is a great career! You can work your way up, there is lots of continuing ed for avancement, there are so many different kinds of nursing and it is a career that is and will continue to be in high demand.

    A nurse can get a well paid job anywhere.

    Just about anything in the medical field is hot right now. Nursing, sonographers, X-Ray techs, vascular technician (if I weren't a nurse, this would be the job for me!).There are so many areas of need in the medical field and demand is growing every year,

    I was going to mention nursing too! Getting into nursing school can be very competitive, depending on your location. It is honestly tons, TONS of work, however in my opinion it is worth it! There are many opportunities and areas in nursing. It might be something interesting for you to check out!

    Good luck & best wishes on whatever you decide!

    Definitely nursing! With me living in the states (soon anyway..) I have found that this would be a great career that is transferable too. :)

    @stbMohror: Then nursing probably isn't for you ;) Are you interested in going back to school for a job in teaching?

    @laktolkr

    I thought I always wanted to teach! The only problem is I'm not sure if I could get a job afterwards, I live in Idaho and there aren't a ton of opportunities. I guess I'm just afraid to go to school for 4 years and then not find anything!

    That is a valid concern.. Ever thought about social work? There is room for quite a bit of growth and everywhere I look, agencies of all kinds are hiring >.<

    OMG.  Nursing is intensely difficult to get into in my state.  No joke, it's super difficult to get into.  There are a lot of shortages for nurses BUT to train a nurse takes a lot of clinical time and I think that's why programs are so small (which is good in some ways, makes great nurses) but it's extremely competitive.

    I think social work would be interesting. Or some sort of counseling. I've only had one psychiatric rotation so far (on an adolescent unit), but I loved going to group therapy and hearing peoples' stories. It was really neat how the counselors helped the kids work through some of their issues! If I wasn't so far into nursing, I would really consider something like that!

    I'm a nursing student, so of course I'm super partial. It's a somewhat quick career to get into. It's very hard, but in the end it will be worth it & Oohhhh so rewarding! I know you said that you cant deal with the gross-ness of stuff but when its your job, you can! It's normal & it's life! You could always do something like being a school nurse? It's great money & for the most part it's only 3 days of work a week!!

    Good question. Maybe you can be a medical transcriptionist? Maybe give us a bit more bkgd on yourself. What are your interests. Surely you may be interested in several professions out there but just can't seem to choose. And we can help you narrow it down then. Also post what you want to stay away from for sure. (Like your e.g. about needles n' blood.)

    To be honest, I am thinking of a career change myself. I am in I.T. but I have really not enough room to move/forward. If I take any time off work (let alone Mat leave) I am so DONE. I will be light years behind in my field! It grows SO FAST. So I was thinking of going into Psychology. I have no friggin' clue how I can pull that off... I.e. more years and commitment of school and basically starting from scratch.

    What about physical therapy?  You wouldn't have to deal with needles and such...
