@FauxBoho: Awesome. Monday was totally lame as we didn’t get hail…

Hope you did well, we had a small leak in our basement. On the other hand, I had some storm related drama when working in my lab. While at its worst, I was sitting by my microscope and all of a sudden I saw a bright blue, sparkly, light on top of the fridge that’s about 1 meter away from me. There was also a loud “crackling” sound, then the lightning hit the building. The light and sound was totally surreal, so I had to Google it once we had power again (yesterday) and it seems like I saw something called St. Elmo’s fire. Very exciting, though I’m fine if it’s a one time thing!

Greaaaaat.  Maybe Mississauga (and my office) will lose power again!  I heard on the radio this morning that they had called off this warning.  I guess Environment Canada is trying to be proactive after giving no warning about the storm on Monday.

@FauxBoho:  Haha oh man.  When we lost power I was still at work and my external monitor shut off… it took me a few minutes to realize I hadn’t “lost” my work, and that if I just unplugged the monitor from my laptop I could keep working.

@Little_Nut88: I know, it was a little crazy that we had close to no warning. All I saw that morning was a small thundercloud on my phone with a “?” next to it…

@FauxBoho: Oh no, that sucks. We live close to the Humber River and that park system will need some SERIOUS work. Large portions of the park is just gone. FI took this image of one of our neighbors (I guess a slightly suicidal one, this was with a lot of zoom!) late Monday evening:

Honestly, this river is usually so calm that people stand fishing in it, or pile up rock art, or toss sticks to their dogs to fetch from it…

It was pretty awesome when it started though because my coworkers and I (we are water resources people) were all pressed up to the window just watching it come down, and checking the updated radar every 10 minutes.

@FauxBoho: I know, I saw her and was just horrified – I mean, we actually had a man drowning in that same river just a month or so ago (after another heavy down pour). Also, the amount of water in the river banks makes me want to stay far away from them, you never know if they would give in! Some people brought their kids to the park as well, allowing them to run and bike through the water… I mean, really? You think this is a suitable playground for a 4 year old?

Didn’t see the people playing in the water though, we don’t have TV, but it doesn’t surprise me!
