One of fiance’s good friends (and grooms woman) is going to be having a baby probably any day now. I definitely want to get her a gift for the baby, but since she’ll be the mom of a newborn and a two year old, I think she would benefit from a gift for her. 🙂
So, what are some good gifts for new moms? For the moms–what kinds of things for YOU did you appreciate/wish to have soon after giving birth?

a bottle of champagne or a six pack! lol j/k I think a gift certificate to macy’s or something to where she can shop for herself and have that outlet is always nice and a bottle of champagne. haha

One thing I’ve seen suggested on here is gift certificates for their favorite restaurant, and I am absolutely in that camp. She’ll be so tired, and overwhelmed until they find their groove, and I know if it were me, I wouldn’t want to cook a bag of popcorn, let alone a meal.

@muckmoo1: and @Quietserenity: Thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately, the present will have to be mailed…so I’m hoping for something I can order from amazon. And legal to ship through the mail. 🙂

Anything to make her life easier is always a crowd pleaser. How about a gift certificate to a maid service or something of the sort?
Food goes a long way as well. When our friends had their first child last year I made them two big trays of enchiladas and this chicken dish I found online (“new arrival chicken” or something). Each meal lasted them almost 3 nights and they couldn’t thank me enough.
ETA: Saw your PP. Guess the food wouldn’t work.

@UpstateCait: Food is a great idea. I think though it may be gross and cold by the time it arrives. 🙁 But who knows, maybe I can figure out some food delivery type thing. Lots of cool things exist nowadays it seems.

Definitely look it up, I know when I lived in Ohio, you could get delivery from BJs Brewhouse. Steaks, baked potatoes, spinach and artichoke dip..a whole meal. I bet you can find something comparable.

I’m not great with babies, but maybe one of those DIY footprint-in-clay things you can frame? They do them for doggies and babies, and I think they’re pretty neato.

Anything that will make her life easier. Meals are a fantastic idea. She may appreciate an offer for babysitting so she can get a break.

Could you maybe order her some groceries online and then have them shipped to her place?
Where I live (in New Zealand) you can place a grocery order online and then have it delivered pretty much anywhere in the country. You can also pretty much get anything you would normally pick up off the shelf in the actual store.

You could call it in, pay for it over the phone, and gift her with some time to just enjoy her new baby and big sister/brother.
Even if it’s just to come in a do laundry…. I know that I would’ve LOVED that when my munchkin was a newborn

Things that might be nice to have:
Cute nursing p.js
restaurant gift certificates
house keeper paid for
massage or mani pedi/spa certificate
Usually you can call local businesses and they will send a gift certificate for you that you can pay for over the phone. You might even be able to buy gift certificates for chain restaurants online.

How about a foot massage kit? Or anything to do with relaxing: like a soft dressing gown / PJs, slippers. I usually get new mums some sort of pampering product 🙂

I think food would be awesome! Even something like a gift basket from Harry and David so she’ll have something to snack on would be fun.
