We sent a book to his parents "Chicken Soup for grandparent's soul". We had a hard enough time getting a hold of my parents, so once I corralled them, I just told them!
i thought about giving my parents a "bubbe" and "zaideh" mugs (yiddish for grandma and grandpa), but i think i'm too superstitious to give them actual objects before we're far enough along. so we're probably just going to be doing the boring verbal announcement.
I don't know about telling my parents but my friend came up with an awesome idea of how to tell FI when I am pregnant.
He is a huge Toronto Maple Leafs fan and so I am going to get him a baby sized jersey to tell he when I am pregnant! How cute is that!!!! Are your parents sports fans?
I saw this on America's Funniest Home Videos and thought it was too cute..
It was the to-be grandpa's birthday. The candles were lit on the cake and everyone started singing.. but instead of his name, they said "grandpa" it was great!
Very cute! I love the Chicken Soup for the Grandparents Soul! @FutureMrs. Martin - thatd be a great idea to tell my hubby, hes a huge sports fan!! My parents are not big sports fans but his parents get into stuff especially baseball, college basketball and college FB. My DH went to Villanova so I could get him a little onesie from there but I dont know how Id be able to wait until it was delivered to tell him unless I ordered it when we start trying! :)
@naangel - I know - I think I might buy one when we are trying - because I know I will want to tell him as soon as I know!
i normally steer away from the baby threads but this one is very cute. I'm keeping the jersey idea (or little cheerleader outfit) for my hubby, haha. By the time we get around to it, i'm sure his parents will be asking us weekly so it'd just be a verbal announcement "yeah, we're preggo gimme a break grandma!" haha
I'm with melissabegins - I don't normally post on baby threads because we're so far from having one, but I love these ideas! I just wanted to say that I loved the way Jenna (Mrs. Avocado and ThatWife) told everyone on her blog - she posted a picture of a onesie that said "that one" (the blog nickname for the baby - following her "that wife" and "that husband" thing) along with a positive pregnancy test. That image spoke ten thousand words - it was so cute!
I can't wait until it's my turn because I already have my ideas, lol. This thread is also full of some good ideas. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/awesome-ways-to-tell-your-hubby-that-youre-pregnant
My favorite is the one I posted about...I would like to do something like this for him (a la Mrs. Lemon): http://www.kimberlymichelle.com/2009/08/27/special-delivery/
My brother has a million kids, so he doesn't bother doing anything special anymore but his 1st was kind of cool. We used to take a week long extended family vacation every summer (before the millions of kids my siblings started popping out, now there are waay too many people) and the adults would get together every night after the kids (my younger cousins) went to bed and play games. We played trivial pursuit one night and it was my brothers turn to ask a question (he was holding the card) and said "What newly married couple is due to have a baby in April?" It took everyone a couple seconds to get it (they had just gotten married literally about 2 weeks before), but it was kind of a cool way to break the news.
We have a little doggie that my in-laws just adore and spoil. We got a t-shirt for him off of etsy that read "Big Brother!" and had him run into their house. It was really sweet once they put it together!
We collect Jim Shore peices...so we bought two fo the Jim Shore Stork pieces and will give them as gifts to our Mom's. Until then...they are hidden in the closet!
@WDW... I love Jim Shore! I wish I would have thought to do that!
@Future Mrs.Martin...My husband is also a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. I didn't get to do the mini hockey thing bc he was the one who made me take the test since I had an awful cold and needed to know what kind of medicine I could take. So, enjoy that!!!
Aw, these are such cute ideas! I'm gonna have to remember these for when I get prego. I had always thought I'd just put the sonogram in a frame and give it to my mom as a present. Now I have some better ideas!
These are so cute! I'm so stealing the idea about the baby jersey! But then I have a feeling FI will be with me during the pee test and at the doctors!
Anyone don't live near your parents or ILs? What would you suggest then?
@Gerbera: If you check out the link I posted aboce, Mrs. Lemon did her little packages for their family since they don't live nearby.
How about sending a congratulations bouquet or balloon arrangemnt. Have the card say Congratulations Grandma/Grandpa!
@WDWBride: I LOVE Jim Shore pieces!!!! I used to work at a Hallmark store and whenever we would get them in I would get soo excited and buy one with my next check! lol.
Hmmm I already have a son and I just told everyone but all these ideas are super cute!
Cute ideas, ladies!
@Gerbera, I don't live near my folks and if we can't plan a trip to tell them in person (which i do feel is super important), Mrs. Lemon's idea is fantastic! It's also a good in-person gift.
Although, knowing my mom's freaky 6th sense, she'll probably know.
My best friend just got pregnant and she dia photo shoot with her 3 year old wearing a shirt that said "Big Brother" and then she mailed the photos in Valentines Day cards. It was super cute, but it took a while for everyone to get the cards, and some people missed the message she was trying to send!
@ WDWBride - that's so cute!!!
I was going to suggest the same thread Lillindy posted. I'm def. filing some of them in the idea bank.
I like the idea of giving them a Grandparent picture frame - it's a cheezy thing, but I think a picture of the sonogram (although not a fan of that) or you & your hubs as babies in the frame would be cute.

If we can't see them soon (since we won't be living in the same city) we may send them something to tell them. Hopefully I won't have to do that for a few more years.

I am a year or two out from actually having a baby but hey, Im a planner. I was wondering if you guys had special ways to tell your parents and in laws that you were pregnant as opposed to just telling them. My SIL and BIL just found out and they gave her parents books (one was called Read to Me Grandma) so when they opened them they figured out she was pregnant. My other BIL and SIL announced a couple years ago during our Oscar watch party they were pregnant by giving the parents a "oscar statue" that said Best Grandparents. I love special things like that!
I scrapbook and had thought of doing a mini scrapbook for them with a pic of me as a baby and an adult, a pic of DH as a baby and adult and then the last page to have a blank spot for the picture that says Coming Soon and then the due date or something like that.
What are great ways youve told your parents or even your hubby that you were pregnant?
