3 years??? Oh my getting rid of all that itching is totally worth it.
Oh nooooo! It's sad when you have to part with such a good friend. I hope it helps you though. Maybe you will meet again one day.... :)
Will you tell me more about probiotics? Is it like a vitamin? I've been having some stomach issues and one of my colleagues keeps talking about them...
@oracle: Ha! I love first world problems. And yes, could you please tell me more about taking probiotics and where to get them? I don't mean to threadjack so feel free to PM me if you have time! I get a yeast infection like.....every time we have sex or I'm about to get my period. They're chronic. I'm hardcore. I hate it. :P
@mwitter80: The sad thing is I'm not super hopeful it will work. I did a two month zero sugar stretch with no results. But, I'm hoping that no sugar + probiotics will do the trick (since probiotics alone seemed to help short-term).
@LovesToPlan: probiotics introduces good organisms (usually bacteria, I think) to your body. There are all sorts of different types (you don't take one universally). They are supposed to combat the bad bacteria in your body....
I totally feel for you. I'm working on some rioja myself right now, and I can't imagine what giving up red wine would be like.
It's like giving up your firstborn child. Uh, at least I imagine it would be like that, right?
@Juliepants: no worries about thread jacking. I totally understand your pain. I get them like clockwork and I know they are directly related to the hormonal shift in my cycle. I'm going to hunt for an old thread where I got great advice about probiotics from the hive. The one I'm taking is the Renew Life Vaginal Support. It worked like magic for the last two cycles... but this time - no luck. Maybe my crappy eating during the holidays (read: increased sugar) and wine consumption the last few weeks have something to do with it ?????
ETA: hope this helps!

@oracle: My husband has to take probiotics for his stomach. He takes Culturelle. You can get it in the drug store an just take the pill once a day. You can also increase your yogurt intake. DH doesn't know it, but sometimes I use yogurt in my cooking. He doesn't like the taste of yogurt, so I have to slip it in when I can.

So, I'm giving up red wine.
I've been dealing with chronic yeast infections for 3+ years. I finally thought I got it under control a couple months ago by taking a probiotic, but it's back this month (even after taking the daily probiotic). So, I'm back to focusing on my diet and figuring out what may be triggering it. I've been drinking a lot of red wine lately and that's been known to be a factor... so, it's out. I'm soooo sad. :( ...oh, my difficult first world problems. ;)
