We went and registered at Bed, Bath, and Beyond yesterday. It was interesting to see that we were the only couple in the store who was being escorted around to complete our registry. Not only did I feel extremely rushed, but I felt like they were pushing for us to register for the most expensive items. They were even trying to get us to register for multiple sets of bedding and dinnerware. It was very odd and annoying. I couldn’t get much for an answer when I asked about why they thought we HAD to have goose down over alternative. My Fiance and I are normally hot and night, so we are not looking for something that is going to be really warm. I also read that goose down is not good for people who are allergy prone, which my fiance and I both are. I don’t want to register for something so expensive, if we would be better off with the alternative. Could I get some opinions please? 🙂

My Fiance is also allergy prone, as is my grandma and goose down makes my Fiance have the sniffles for 3 days, my grandma’s eyes swell shut. Don’t register for some item because it’s expensive, register because it will make your home complete. If they are pushy in the store, maybe add to your registry online? Visit the store and pretend to be shopping for a gift for a friend at the moment, and check out what you really like, then put it on your registry online. I have found another way to get rid of a clerk that is pushy is just say “me and my future husband want to discuss this privately, we’ll find you if we need anything else”. Because think of what you will do on your sheets, you don’t want to discuss that with a sales lady. Best of luck with registering!

If you dont think down is right for you, by all means, dont register for it!! To me a registry is like shopping without actually having to buy anything myself so put whatever you actually want and will use on it. Everytime I went to Bed Bath, I told them I did not need help and we just want to go around by ourself. I’ve been shopping all my life, I don’t need to be walked through it now with a pushy salesperson.

I love goose down, but to each their own. If you can’t have it, don’t register for it and tell those people to F off! (but nicer)

if you have allergies, it’s probably best to stay away from goose down.
i only use alternative down now because every goose down comforter i’ve had has eventually ripped and spewed feathers EVERYWHERE.

When we registered there I had to go to 2 different people before they understood I didn’t want an escort, nor did I need one. I’ve been married before (and registered there!), am a former pastry chef and we’ve both lived on our own so I was pretty confident I knew what I wanted 🙂
We have a goose down I got at Kohl’s a few years ago that is awesome. Doesn’t bother my allergies one bit which is surprising and it’s the warmest blanket I’ve ever had. We registered for a summer weight alternative blanket to use for the rest of the year. You’ll have less fluff problems with the alternative one. We use a duvet and I wash it a few times a year but have to be very careful when I take the comforter out since there’s usually a lot of floof flying around 🙂
Another option if you have a duvet is to register for a regular ol’ comforter set. They can be put in the duvet too, and are usually way cheaper and lighter weight.
Get what YOU need, not what they suggest 🙂 After going into the store, I’ve updated everything online and just stopped in the store after to print out my registry and see what they physically have so I know it’s available there.

I’ve heard that what makes goose down better than synthetic fabrics is that when you sweat, the goosedown absorbs the sweat and it dries quickly, which then helps keep you cooler. With synthetic fabrics, the sweat doesn’t get absorbed as easily so it feels clammier and hotter.

We have alternative down, and it is fantastic! There are no feathery ends poking out at you. I also suffer from allergies and didn’t want to take a chance. I was skeptical too because goose down usually costs more, but now I will always buy alternative down (that is of a good quality).

@Kristen0160: if you have allergies dont get down. it’s bird “hair”. i use an alternative and it keeps me warm. they also have different levels of coverage–cool to hot.
