oh man, i know the feeling!! hang in there though, just think about the money slowly trickling in to your bank account! i also hate slow paced work...it can seem to make time drag! but, as you know, it's so hard to find employment for a lot of people, so like you said, try to hang on to your job until you can line up another one. good luck at your interview, hopefully you'll get it! and don't worry about the hotel, they'll find a replacement if you leave :)
sorry to hear that. As somsone who took the first job offered to her, I highly reccomend that you go through with the inerterview for the portrait studio and that you take that job if you're offered it. I decline an interview at petco (ok, not the greatest, but I've always wanted to work there since I was about 14 and it's literally only a 2 minute walk from my house), because I had been offered another job that I had accepted the day before Petco called me to set up an interview. I kind of regret it (I was never thrilled with the job I did accept), but I just felt too guilty about not accepting the first job (a nanny job). le sigh.
You should definitely interview for the portrait studio, it sounds like it would be more your speed. Good luck!
Yeah, definitely keep looking around to find something you like better. You aren't doing the hotel any favors by staying around if it's not the right job for you, I'm sure they can find someone else who loves slow-paced work. Good luck at your interview!!
With everyone hurting for jobs right now, you definintely need to find something else before you jump ship. That being said, the hotel will totally be able to find someone else! It's a high turnover industry anyway. Do what you want!
Arg. Is there anything you could do during the slow times at your job? Like, would they allow you to bring a book or magazine, or heck, your laptop? (Or, if you're taking a class or in school, perhaps working on homework while at work? I have a friend who works a night shift and she is permitted to do her homework while on the clock, provided that no one needs her assistance.)
I went from a super busy waitressing job to a desk/engineering job that has its ups and downs. Sometimes i'm so bored, sometimes i'm busy. You DO get used to it, I promise. I'm not allowed to do non-work related stuff here, but I always see front desk peopel reading books and stuff. I'd be all about it.
If they won't let you bring a laptop to your job, how about a small notebook? You can write, draw, make lists, solve math equations while looking industrious.
I hope the interview at the portrait studio goes well. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Update: The postion with the portrait studio went okay, but after reading some company reviews from former employees I'm not sure it's for me even if I get the job. However, the weirdest thing happen today...I decided that I don't want to settle for this hotel job, I don't have an opportunity for advancement, I don't enjoy it, I won't even make full-time once I graduate from college in two months. While, I'm going to keep the job at the hotel until I'm employeed elsewhere, I need to keep looking. So I decided to make my resume public on careerbuilder and apply for any postions I found interesting, probably less than an hour after I do this, a get a call from Avelon Inc, which is a marketing and sales firm. They saw that I'm close to graduation on my resume and they would train me then place me into a management postion. They asked me a few questions and I go in for a face-to-face tomorrow afternoon. I'm really excited about this and hoping it pans out. Any suggestions that might help me do well in this interview would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the support bees!

I've been down and out about not having a job but I had an interview about a day after that post, it was for Extended Stay Hotels for the front desk. I got the job and I started but in all honesty it's sooo boring and while some might like the low-key work, I've been in Food service for 7 years and not use to the slow paced stuff. I have another interview tomorrow with a portrait studio, which sounds great, a little more upbeat than where I'm at. I feel bad for taking this interview when I've barely started this other job, but I think I need to just to see. I promised FI I wouldn't quit the job unless I found somewhere else that hired me. I really need to keep a job to help pay for te wedding. This portrait studio postion would be full time, so that's another plus, the postion I'm at now is only part-time and in no way could become full-time with it being off season for them. Ugh, why could things just be easy....
