I guess I should mention I don't have a receipt or know where it was bought
I don't live in the US so am not familiar with the return policies of your stores. Here you can exchange anything at Sears.
If you google KitchenAid Pro 6 QT. you will see the retailers who carry this model.
Give it a try, at least *shrug*. I've exchanged stock in stores before that I've won in ompetitions. It's almost never the right size/fit/etc.
If it turns out you can't exchange it, then at least you can settle on the colour knowing at least you tried.
And congrats on the early wedding gift; I lust after those mixers.
I don't know. My Kitchenaid, which was from BB&B, came in the full fledged Kitchenaid box. I would imagine that any mixers sold through them probably come in the normal box so they'd know it didn't come from there. It sounds like it could have been ordered through overstock or amazon. I've gotten product in generic boxes from both of them before.
I would explain the color doesn't go with your decor and ask if they mind if you exchange it. About a month ago Amazon had the KitchenAid Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Mixer in silver and gloss cinnamon (red) as a gold box deal and it was really popular. It arrived in a brown KitchenAid box similar to what you've described. I've never seen those mixers in anything but the pretty colored boxes in any of the physical stores.
@accorn: Do you have Kohl's near you? They sell that kitchen stuff, and their return policy is pretty kick-ass. They'll basically take anything back whether you have a receipt or not. This week may be especially good since they are probably doing a ton of holiday returns still...
Or just keep it and deal with the color :) good luck!
It sounds like the person that got it from you got it from an online dealer. If you return it try and return it not in the box, say something like my husband bought me it for christmas and i dont like the colour but unfortunatey he devided to set it up in the kitchen for me as a surprise, he also managed to loose the receipt is their anyway to swap the colour?
Usually they don't give you a hard time if you just exchange for the same product (rather than try to get your money back). I would give it a try at least!
If you're just doing a product exchange, it shouldn't be an issue! The brown box definitely sounds like amazon (or another online retailer) since I've gotten things from amazon before in a box just like that.
I like the idea of saying hubby set it up and lost the receipt, but not having a box to resell it in may hinder the retailers choice to return it, since they have to worry about how to resell it?
Hmm, it looks like I'll just stick with the red but I love it regardless of color!
Unless of course someone wants to swap, haha.
I got a kitchenaid mixer for Christmas that was purchased from amazon and it came in a plain brown box, but inside it was the full fledged kitchenaid box. Have you tried opening it for a peek?
@accorn: BB&B takes everything back. I brought something back without a box because I was stupid & threw it out. They exchanged it w/ no questions asked. At least give it a shot... It can't hurt anything.
@impatientlypatient: Yes, I opened it and it just has the styrofoam inside, no other box.
@alicia1745: Maybe I'll call...
If it helps, DH bought mine at JC Penney and it was shipped as the color was out of stock. In store it was the pretty box. Shipped, outer packaging was the brown box saying kitchen aid stand mixer and inside was the pretty box that looked the same as in-store.
I'd try to exchange it. If you are swapping for the same item, most stores don't give too much of a hassle. Try BB&B, Sears, Kohls, etc.
FI ordered mine from amazon for christmas. And it came in a brown box, nothing on the outside except shipping info. And then kitchen aid box inside.
I'm sure amazon would let you exchange. They have a chat online you can chat with someone. Tell them it was a gift, and you would like to exchange the color.
Also Nordstrom's return policy is amazing. They'll take just about anything back. Not sure if you need a receipt of proof or not, but I doubt it would be a big issue if you're just doing a color-exchange!
If you can't return it, check with your local cooking supply stores like Williams-Sonoma to see if they know anybody that does custom paint jobs. My mom found out about a man that does custom painting of KitchenAids from her local Williams-Sonoma. He uses car paint, so it's high-quality, and can do solid colors or designs.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
I got a red Kitchenaid Mixer as an early Wedding gift but I'm not thrilled with the color. I know I should probably just suck it up and make 13 dozen cookies (it can make 13 dozen cookies at once!) But part of me wants to see if I can exchange it at Bed Bath and Beyond for a different color.
It doesn't have a fancy box, it is in a plain brown box that is from Kitchenaid (KitchenAid Stand Mixer is printed on it). It is obviously new.
But do you think Bed Bath and Beyond would do an exchange? It's the KitchenAid Pro 6 QT.
Does anyone have experience with this?
