i am getting mine back from being re-dipped tonight. i cannot wait to see the difference!
I nervous about doing it :(
I can tell now that I wear my wedding ring with it that it needs to be done but I just haven't yet.
Your ring looks great!
Wow! I can see what a big difference that makes! It makes me want to get that done!
Your ring looks amazing - HUGE difference.
I have several scratches on mine and it drives FI CRAZY! Was your "before" photo, toward the bottom, were those actual scratches? And now they're gone?
You won't be disappointed that's for sure! I wasn't expecting to notice a huge difference. Maybe some of the scratches would be gone. No, it was super shiny, smooth, and sparkley.
@milesbella: Yes they were scratches. They weren't super deep. It was 3 years of wearing it everyday all day. The woman told me that it gets buffed as well as re-dipped. Also keep in mind I'm left handed. Everything I do (ex. crochet, write, cook, etc) has something touching my ring.
@MandyCakes: Wow! You can really see the difference! I always get peeved when the jewelery people kept telling me to re-dip mine too lol. Now I see why! I need to get mine done.. I will have a hard time parting with my ring for a week.
@Mrs.ChubbyBunny: I know! I left there feeling like I had left a family member. My FH made me laugh because he told me to stop "stress sighing" on the drive home. It goes by quick I promise! lol
Wow, my e-ring has lots of wear and tear on the bottom, I'll definitely want to get this done soon. How much does a re-dip cost?
They quoted me $50 because it was 3 years of damage. I got it down to $35.
Oh my goodness, I think I need to do this ASAP! Lucky I am going to the jeweller on the weekend, he said he wanted to do something to it to make it shiny the week before the wedding, maybe he is planning to re-dip it?
My ring is actually an heirloom and i thought it had to be melted down to get rid of all the scratches. Is yours white gold with rhodium plating? (sorry, a bit daft with this stuff).
i do mine 2-3 times a year! I love the way it looks afterwards!
so glad you love yours :) haha
@MandyCakes: That's not a bad price at all for how beautiful the rings come out looking! I’m definitely going to check into this!
@teaspoon: I believe it's usually 14k yellow gold that's dipped in rhodium which gives it the white color.
@Miss Meg: This is the first time I've done this so I don't know if it normally comes out like this. Judging by what others have said I'm assuming it is. The jeweler I use is local and he re-dips in his shop. I hear that some places send it out for a couple weeks. That made me really nervous.
I had mine done a few weeks before the wedding, and it looked great! It was also free. Thank you Zales!
I have had my ring for 1 1/2 years and I have had it re-dipped 3 times! I love the way it looks after! I had it sized twice so it was re-dipped then and I had it re-dipped the week before my wedding. I will probably do it once a year from here out. My ring is from Shane Co. and they re-dip it for free under the lifetime warranty.
My ring didn't come with a lifetime warranty. It got it from a local jeweler. I have to say that I haven't been overly pleased with them. I love the ring don't get me wrong but I just mean their shop in general. The woman that helped us when we went told us the ring was x amount originally but it was on sale for this x amount. I figured she was probably just bs'ing but when we went to pick the ring up they didn't do the appraisal. They had over 2 weeks to do it. My FH proposed and we had to give them the ring back for another week. When I finally recieved the appraisal it was for the amount it was on sale and not the original amount. So really I would never be able to replace the ring if someone were to steal it. Now they charged me to re-dip the ring.
My ring was custom for another bride actually but she called off her wedding (supposedly). I went back to that jeweler to see if they had anything to go with it. We found a band for myself and my FH. They only offered to give us $115 off the total amount of $3000 for our bands. We were paying cash too. I know they have to make money but there is already a mark up on the pieces. I think for $3000 you can do better than $115 for BOTH. Ok I don't with my rant I swear. o_o'
I probably won't have my ring re-plated. The rhodium has only worn off the bottom of the ring and I like the patina of the gold without the rhodium. I had it replated for the wedding, because I wanted it to look new. But now that I'm married, I think I want it to ag with our relationship.
I worked for a jewelry store before. It shouldn't make a difference how long it has been, they don't have to do any more work on a ring that has been dipped three years ago than they do on a ring that was dipped three weeks ago. They still buff the ring before they re-plate it.
@Loribeth: I will keep that in mind next time I need it done. Thanks for the info. =)
Thanks for the compliments bees.
Your ring looks so antiquey, very beautiful! You really notice the difference before and after!
Sorry if this is a stupid question but do you have to get all rings redipped? Or just rhodium plated ones? Can the ring be badly damaged if it wasn't redipped? I'm pretty clueless about jewellery!
I can't tell the difference! haha, sorry!
But everyone else can, so that's good. I have only had mine for almost 8 months and my ring looks alot more yellow than that.
@MandyCakes: Hello fellow crocheting lefty!
Do you recommend the 1x a year now? I'm pretty harsh with my hands. Though I am getting a moissy. I'm not sure if that makes a difference. But it is white gold.
he got my ring at greenbergs, and they offered a lifetime warrenty as long as i bring it in every 3 months to be cleaned. and i have already had to get it redipped ( since feb) i felt so lost with out it. i think that when i get it redipped before the wedding, im going to get a plain band to wear, and have it be my work band also. cuz if you cant tell from my picture, it sits pretty high.
Looks GREAT!!!! I recently had mine done as well and I can't believe how shiny it was!
I get mine done every anniversary. and I fall in love with my ring all over again!!! Best thing I ever did. I would do it more often just the place we go to is pretty far away, but only cost $25 since i had my ring soldered together. Quite a steal to make it look brand new again! Your ring looks amazing!!

My FH and I went looking at wedding bands two weeks ago. Every shop I went to said "You really need to get your ring re-dipped.". Gee, thanks! =P To be honest, I was unaware of the fact that you need to re-dip it at least once a year. I went 3 years before doing this. Honestly, I didn't notice it until I put it next to something new. We took it to the same jeweler that made the ring. He does it in house which was comforting. I kept having those moments of "Omg, where is my ring?!" lol! We picked my ring up yesterday and WOW. They were right, it realllllly needed it.

There really doesn't seem to be a huge difference in the top of the ring. However, the bottom has a huge difference. Anyway, sharing my duh moment with the bees! =D
