I had my ring fixed and it looks SOOOOO much better with my wedding band now!!
Summarized, my e-band was measured wrong at a local jewelery shop and I had my wedding band custom made by a jeweler in a different city using that measurement. Naturally this was a diasaster. (not the jewelers fault of course).
My options from my jeweler for fixing the rings were A. Re-make the wedding band with a higher profile (jeweler thought this wouldn’t look good tho) B. Shave the inside sides of the engagement ring down to bring the height down and then adjust the ring for size or C. Re-make the engagement ring.
In the end, I went with a different (local) jeweler who came up with an even better solution. Rather than changing the INSIDE of the engagment band and sizing it down (which made me worry about integrity and shape issues), this jeweler proposed taking out the pave diamonds, shaving down the metal to be the same height as the wedding band, and then re-making the pave settings. This cost HALF of what re-making the engagment ring would have cost. It was R2500 ($250) which we were happy about.
So here’s a pic of the rings before they were fixed and not looking amazing together:
And here are the bands together with the e-ring fixed!
I’m SO happy and relieved!!! 😀

@MissSweetiepie: Thank you!!
@wrkbrk: Right?! It’s night and day!
@wifeNat: Yea, I’m SO glad we decided to fix it.
@gemgirl6: Totally happy with the price. Definitely learned the rule of going straight to the jeweler, not the store or diamond dealer.
@Fizzy8: He’s amazing. I’m beyond happy.
Seriously, I was so freaking out about the rings looking bad and I am completely thrilled with the job this jeweler did to fix it. I think the engagment ring looks better than it did originally even if you’re not accounting for it matching the wedding band. Super happy!
(And after an insanely stressful and disappointing day – it’s nice to talk about something great that’s happened. 🙂 )

@NewYorkLady: Wow, they do look much better together! Just curious, what is R2500? (other than being $250)

@NewYorkLady: Looks great! I had a problem somewhat similar to yours: my e-ring band was super low profile and all wedding bands stood up higher than it. it made me crazy! so I had my e-ring altered to match up with my wedding band. I’m SO glad I did it. it’s nice to see I’m not the only bee who is super detail oriented when it comes to these things 🙂

@NewYorkLady: what a difference!!!!! Looks absolutely beautiful!!!!!!

@nerdybird: haha awesome. Twin minds. I am suuuuper detail oriented (period) and it REALLY bothered me how they looked so different and didn’t go together. I’m SO glad we decided to change the e-ring. We were going to just have it completely remade before the local jeweler came up with this much cheaper solution that worked just as well. 😀
@jadlnc: Right? The e-ring band is actually ever so slightly wider now than it was before (bc it had narrowed upwards I guess) which makes it match even better. For some reason the pave diamonds look so much better to me than they did before too.
@FutureMrsV2016: Thank you!!! The difference is immense!!
