missjyc, i'm in the same boat. FI does a lot more for me, and it sucks, but we recently joined mint.com and put both of our accounts on the same mint account, so we think of it as "our money" now. He's always going to make more than me, so it's something I have to get used to, but I feel a little better seeing how I contribute. Maybe you could do something like this?
Edit: ALSO, OMG DRESS YAY!
thanks labor! what's ironic, is that right now, i am making more than FI! he's just been really good up to this point with his credit, savings, etc. whereas im trying to play catchup with my bills, helping my parents (they recently moved back to MI, to be with family, but are def feeling the pains of the recession)
i know that we will be okay and i'm so grateful that even tho i feel like i'm paycheck to paycheck... we are SO lucky to have the means to plan our dream wedding! i just hate having this financial burden until our honeymoon!
Good luck with everything. I'm sorry the finances didn't work out for you. My husband and I paid for the majority of our wedding ourselves and it was hard.
u dont have to pay for it right away. some dress shops hold it till it get close to your alteration day.
congrats on getting the call for you dress, thats so exciting!! ok first thing, you are allowed to be happy and excited!! you are going to figure something out, so dont fret! im sure they can work out a payment plan, just talk to the store! and dont feel bad about your FI coming to the rescue, think of it this way: he's marrying you and one day, your money is his and vive versa. he obviously loves and cares about you, it'll be fine! im still in school and my FI is graduated so im constantly relying on him bc hes making money and im still a student. i usually feel kinda bad but he tells me that if he didnt love me, he wouldnt want to take care of me and that one day i can support him ;)

so yesterday near the end of the work day, i got a call from an unknown number. send to voicemail, checked it a few minutes later. it was my bridal shop calling to let me know that MY DRESS IS IN early! (ordered in october09, wasn't expecting til april 09)
*SIGH*
when most girls would be excited, my heart sank.
FI and I just recently found out that we'd be paying for 50% of our wedding to help each of our parents' portions down to 25%. i'm totally grateful for any help at all, esp with my mom having paid the 50% deposit on my dress back in october. but now i'm stuck with a $500+ bill. FI's been really supportive, telling me we'll charge it and work out a smart payment plan.. but i'm just overwhelmed because when it comes to finances, i feel like i'm always relying on him to bail me out :(
thanks for listening to me whine; i'll definitely post pics once i get my butt to the store (within the next 2 weeks) to see my dress!!
