Expedited passport application? No problem. What’s that, government shutdown? No passport and no honeymoon for me. Oh, you need a marriage license to get married? Can’t get one of those either for awhile. O.M.F.G. Freaking out.

Are marriage licenses a govt thing? I thought they were state.

@krex: It looks like your marriage licence bureau will still be open (at least for awhile, but I’d run on down), however the expidited passport may be more difficult. You’re advised to fcontact the passport bureau (the Dept. of State) asap and wait on hold as long as you need it in order to track down an answer. Wish you luck!

You can still get a passport, but your time limit is very short.
“Consular operations domestically and overseas will remain 100% operational as long as there are sufficient fees to support operations,”
So, yes. You can get a passport. Just do it quickly because they only have limited funds.
You should still be able to pick up a marriage license.

Marriage licenses shouldn’t be affected. However, I advise you to follow-up on your passport ASAP!

🙁 yuck that this situation is adding to your stress.

I think the passport situation largely depends on where it’s being processed. I heard that in theory passports would not stop since they’re funded by the fees collected, but in practice, if the processing is being done in a national givernment building, there could be delay. I echo others- call and stay on the line.

Also make sure you apply at a passport office that’s not located in a federal building. Call them and check.

I’ve read both thoughts of these topics. Some articles say passports have a while longer to process, others say no way to apply for passport. Same thing with articles about applying for licenses. totally up in the air and stressing out!
