Disclaimer: Many of us will have different opinions on the government shutdown, and many different political views, but please try to keep this as friendly as possible.
I’m just wondering if anyone here is personally going to be affected by this?
my FH lost his job so last month we applied for emergency food stamps and we had to turn in our paperwork to get them “long term” yesterday, so I don’t know if they are gonna actually file our paperwork or not 🙁 I read that this could affect people getting passports as well (from the looking around I did this morning), and the possible effects for military members.
PS: in anyway this is against guidelines, turns into a heated war, I give whoever permission to close this, I’m just curious of how many people this is going to affect (and maybe someone would have some insight on the situation?)

I don’t have any direct affects. But this definitely is disturbing to think they can just SHUT DOWN! 🙁

I’m a Navy civilian. I don’t think it’s going to affect me though cause of the group I’m in. But I was just thinking how much it would suck for people planning on a vacation to National Park and not being able to go. 🙁

i’m sure everyone whether they realize it or not will be affected by it. It just kills me that we were looking down the barrel of a government shutdown and yet we had the money to get involved with the craziness in Libya?? Come on! We have to get our stuff together here first! We have people that need help to, yet they seem to come last and that’s not fair.
OP good luck and I hope everything works out for you! 🙂

My husband works for a govenernment contractor. He doesn’t yet know if he has to report for work on Monday. Sucks.

I’m affected, I’m an Army Civilian and we have all these emails going around about the hotline to call on Monday to see if we’ll have work.
I have to agree with MissCallieJean, we need to not be putting money inot all this crap that doesn’t have to involve us.
But since we have, I am willing to do my part and forgo the pay for the couple of days– the horrible economic situation of our country kinda freaks me out a bit so I’d rather the govt start doing something to fix it, even if it means a little temporary crappiness for me. I guess since I don’t live paycheck to paycheck it is easy for me to say that, but that is just how I feel.

@DCSquared: also I don’t think it’s quite as bad as it sounds. Mission essential personnel still have to work, so all the immediate/important jobs do get done. AT least where I work, we can’t have interrupted service to soldiers, so there are still people here making sure the most important things are running/taken care of.

It won’t directly affect me or anyone I know. I also don’t live paycheck to paycheck so I don’t have to worry about programs and things stopping either.

Yup, my sister is a government worked in DC. She doesn’t know whats happening yet.
My SO is on unemployment so Im not sure if we will be getting payment? I also heard they might not be issuing IRS refunds? We are filing our taxes tomorrow.

My husband and I both will not be working if there is a shutdown. We also might not get paid so it’s going to be interesting to pay our bills.

Living in the DC area I think its hard not to know or be related to someone who is going to be affected. Hopefully it wont last too long. Most of my friends have been saving money for a little while now just in case it does go on longer than expected. I just dont understand how they could let something like this happen.

@Seaside: I hope it’s not too serious!!!

I just think the timing of this is so irritating. Just as I am paying my taxes to the government to have these services, they are shutting down because they can’t compromise and make a decision. I wish I could withold paying my taxes like they can shut down the gov’t!
