I am in the middle of the big dress search and have hit a wall. From the start I really loved Jenny Packham gowns — the vintage look was always what I was going for. While out with my Maid/Matron of Honor, we went to try on some more traditional gowns and now I am torn between going with something I know looks flattering and something swingy, comfortable, unusual, and memorable.
This is one of the looks that I thought I wanted. It does feel very floaty and “bridal.”
Then there is this: as another bride’s mom said, “the kind of dress people will talk about ten years from now.”
I am pretty petite, though, and it doesn’t seem like this dress shows off the figure as well as some. Like, say, this, which has a lot in common with one of my high school formal gowns:
I am going to look at some more Packhams soon and try on #2 again (and hopefully also this one). But is it crazy to play it safe and pick the traditional gown that I know looks good, even if it feels a little like a cop-out?

Bump with a picture of the back of #2.

I like the idea of #2, but honestly, it’s not very flattering, like you said . . . especially the flower placement below your vajajay. Could you find something else in a ’30s style? If you are only choosing between these exact gowns, I would go with #1.

Ooohhhh…I love the last one….what a FIGURE!!!!!!!!

I like the last one–the satin mermaid/trumpet. They are all beautiful, but you have a beautiful figure, and I don’t think the other two show it off as much!

Thanks, Sandollar & aubiegirl!
Maybe if #2 were not bloused at the waist, as in the designer photo, it would hit at a more flattering spot (lowering the “vajajay flower” and dropping the waist pattern a touch).

I like the second one. It doesn’t show your figure as much, but it would be hard to make your figure look bad. Get it and get a reception dress that’s tighter! Or the other way around, wear a flapper dress for your reception! Ohhh how I love spending other people’s money…

@vilthuril: lol the “vajayjay flower”.

The last one by far! I agree that the second one doesn’t flatter your figure–in fact, I think you look bigger in it. The last one shows of your gorgeous figure and makes you look amazing!

I love the first one! It has a goddess look about it. (I hope that is the look you were going for : )

Oh gosh…. I know you were leaning toward the others but #3 is a show-stopper!

I was going to say #1 until I saw #3! Stunning on you!

I think this isn’t what you want to hear, but you look amazing in the last one. It blows the other two out of the water, especially the second one, which I think makes you look bigger than you actually are. The last one really shows off your figure – I think people will still be talking about your dress ten years from now, just because you looked so good in it! That being said, you’re clearly in love with the style of the other two dresses. Go with what your heart tells you, and what makes you happy.
