Ok I need help finding a good song for Grandfather/Granddaughter dance. This has already been a very hard thing for me. My father is still living, and we are very very close, but he is very very ill and not able to walk me down the aisle nor do the father/daughter dance. Therefore my grandfather has stepped up to the plate and is taking his place. We are very close as well but I need a good song and as well as trying to hold back the tears from my dad not being able to be there with me. I am so tore up over this and I am just at a stand still it seems. Looking for much needed advice from people whom have been in this position or something like it.
Thanks so very much!

I danced with my grandfather at my first wedding. We danced to
To Sir with Love – LuLu
Those schoolgirl days of telling tales and biting nails are gone
But in my mind I know they will still live on and on
But how do you thank someone who has taken you from crayons to perfume?
It isn’t easy, but I’ll try
If you wanted the sky I would write across the sky in letters
That would soar a thousand feet high ‘To Sir, With Love’
The time has come for closing books and long last looks must end
And as I leave I know that I am leaving my best friend
A friend who taught me right from wrong and weak from strong
That’s a lot to learn, but what can I give you in return?
If you wanted the moon I would try to make a start
But I would rather you let me give my heart ‘To Sir, With Love’

I sang at a wedding where the grandfather and granddaughter danced to a slow, sweet, jazz version of Take Me Out To The Ballgame, because he took her to baseball games throughout her childhood. It was so incredibly sweet I could hardly sing!

My grandfather (and all of his brothers) used to LOVE to jitterbug at weddings! Maybe you could do a song from his generation (glen miller band comes to mind) and jitterbug to it. It would keep it light and hopefully keep you from tearing up, plus it would look really cute!

My grandfather and I are dancing to our favorite song, Glenn Miller’s “Moonlight Serenade.”
Good luck on choosing! Can’t wait to hear what you pick! 🙂
