Stein Mart might be a good place. I used to work there, and we had a good selection of plus sized dressy outfits for the older demographic.

Try ordering on line from a local store . . . the stores can’t keep a good selection in all the sizes in stock.  I had great luck finding several outfits for my MIL (size 18 plus, 72 YO).  She was going to try to find something fitted and get spanx–I found her a comfy dress that she liked for a somewhat reasonable price from Dillard’s online.  I ordered about 20 outfits (paid one shipping price) and took everything back to the store that she didn’t want.
