A little background. My grandmother has been divorced for about 40 years and her marriage is not a happy memory. She gave me her engagement ring and said I could do whatever I wanted with it, sell it, wear it, turn it into something else. She went on and on about how it’s nothing special, not as big as my ring…well I got it and the diamond was stunning. The jeweler says it’s about .47 carats but just about perfect. I don’t have official stats but the jeweler couldn’t see any flaws. I told my grandmother and she says “oh yeah I know it’s perfect.”
After a lot of thought I decided I didn’t want another engagementy looking ring, and honestly the sparkle of this thing kind of competed with my diamond, which normally looks great but not right up against my grandmother’s diamond. So I had it made into a necklace with a halo. I still have the setting and might make a different ring out of, might sell the gold, not sure yet.

@PatientBee: really pretty pendant! I like it

@PatientBee: Gorgeous! Good choice, I love the pendant! I think it’s the best of both worlds, none of the unhappy marriage-related memories are preserved in the pendant but the perfect diamond gets a new happy life 🙂

@PatientBee: Awe this is great! My mom did the same thing for me! She got divorced & turned her wedding ring diamond into a pendant that she surprised me with on the day of my wedding. It makes it SO special to me. Enjoy your new beautiful necklace!

Beautiful! Where did you get that pendant? My mom upgraded her diamond and I have her old stone and thinking of doing something similar

@Diamondgurl: Thanks! I just went to a local jewellery shop and looked in the book they had and picked one out. It was $350.
