I am super curious about this venue and would like some real world commentary.  Thanks so much.

Also, how are they about negotiating things like substitutions or discounts?

I will be able to post once I have my wedding in the outdoor tent next Friday night!!  So far they have been amazing though and I've never heard a bad word about them from other people who have had their weddings/events there either!  The food is supposed to be really good (we live out of state so couldn't go to a tasting to see for ourselves) and they cater to your every need.  I can't say enough good things about them so far but the big test comes next weekend! :)

My wedding is in November but I have also heard nothing but great things. We went to a tasting and the food was great- we even liked things we would have never thought of including in our menu.

I would love to see photos of centerpieces. They have oval tables to I would like to get a idea of what other brides have done.

Heather25- good luck in picking a location. I thought the Grandview was the best choice with a beautiful view! So much is included!

There have been quite a few Grandview brides already, Here's one post that may help:

    http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/the-grandview-in-poughkeepsie

One of the posters just got married there this past weekend, so I would PM her if I were you. I've worked several weddings at the Grandview and they've always been amazing and very attentive to their couples. Excellent food too!

We got married at The Grandview in the outdoor tent on June 5th. All I have to say is.....AMAZING!!! Everyone and everything was absolutely exceptional! It ended up raining that day, so the reception was moved under the tent. Our guests did not even realize the ceremony wasn't supposed to be under the tent. Our guests have repeatedly told how great the food and service both were. I had several people tell us it was the best wedding they have even attened! As far as negotiating prices, I am not sure. We found their prices to be very resonable though. They take care of absoluetly everything for you! Also, our guests stayed at The Grand Hotel (same owners, you get a package w/ them when you book the Venue), and rooms and service were great there as well! Those of you getting married at The Grandview...Good Luck and Congrats, you will LOVE it!

2BostonNY: For centerpieces we did box shaped glass containers w/ a full aranagement of flowers and on each side we did 3 square votives (sorry I don't have any pics of those yet, I will post when I get them) You don't want to do anything too big b/c there is sooo much stuff already on the tables and you want your guests to have enough room for their food and drinks.

These pics are just from friends/family's cameras and I think they are great haha....can't wait to see my photographer's pics though! :) Let me know if you have any questions or want to see more pics. I can go on forever about how wonderful The Grandview made our wedding day!

Beautiful photos!!! Thats the first time I saw the ivory chair covers too!

Hair and makeup question: Has anyone used Bella Luci in Poughkeepsie? I'm looking for a place that does hair and makeup that is reasonable enough for everyone to get done at the same place.

Where are you ladies getting your hair and make up...or where did you??

That's where I'm going.  I go in for my trial at the end of July.  I've never been there, but have heard good things about them.  The owner is really great to deal with.

I think their hair costs are on par with others, but their makeup costs are a bit high.

I am getting married at the grandview in October.  I just went to the tasting there on the 11th and I dont think the chair covers are ivory.  They are more of a light gold color.

nikkibags17 - What type of rose petals did you use for the border of your aisle during the ceremony?  Did you have any problems with them blowing around?  I was thinking about using freeze dried rose petals but I am not sure they will stay in place.

indesisivegirl: The chair covers are maroon but as a upgrade you can have a choice of different colors. $5 per chair- it is in the packet they gave you--but I called and asked:) I didnt mind the maroon but the ivory are really nice! Im considering it.

Just to let you ladies know, I did not have to pay extra for the ivory chair pads. The Grandview may have changed that but it's not like we got married that long ago, $5 a chair seems a bit much. We did have to pay for the chair sashes and you have to orded through them not an outside company.

indecisivegirl: We just orded flower petals through our florist. They are not freezed dried or anything special like that. They lasted the entire night and did not wilt or anything.

The cocktail hour takes place in the tent, they divide the space in half. The first hour of the reception, you have the appetizer stations, cocktails, etc in the far end of the tent. And then the dinnner is served on the other half, the one closest to the river with the view of the mountains. The light s gorgeous too.

Attached is a photo of he room. You can sort of see the set-up behind the pic of the beautiful baby and my friend.

Hi Nikki ~ congrats! As with all GV brides I have read online ... you seem very pleased with the way everything went! I'm getting married at the GV in September [omg, September!] - Quick question if you'd kindly oblige?! Who did you use for your flowers? 1) Were you absolutely happy with them from the meeting, to the day-off quality and service? 2) Did you get a package deal, with centerpieces, bouquets, head table arrangement etc? If so, estimated price please?! Thanks a bunch girl!

    Hi Grandview Brides-

I am getting married there Sept '11 and was just looking for any info on make-up artists in the area recommended for the big day, as well as places for day before mani/pedis.  Also, any thoughts on places in poughkeepsie to take pictures indoors IF it rains?  Thanks!

    Hi Sugargal06!

I will be married there on Sept, 11th 2010! I think you mean, your set for Sept 2011.

You should def' ask your banquet manager at GV for any recommendations. I'm sure they have lots of firsthand knowledge about all sorts of vendors that brides have used.

I'm having mani/pedi done prior to, in our NYC area before heading over there for the day-of. And my makeup artist, from NYC, is coming to the venue for day-of makeup/hair. If ever you feel limited in choices for vendors in that immediate area, it is definitely worthwhile to look outside Poughkeepsie for a vendor to come to you. Often times, they won't charge extra and even if they do, it's not a huge fee. [Mine charges $50.00 travel expense from NYC, which is a 1.5 hour drive.]

As for photos - if your photographer is not familiar with the locale, again - I would suggest asking your manager at GV for input. Just be sure to check any indoor location regulations for possible need of permits etc. The Poughkeepsie Train Station nearby is one of my choices for day-of photos. Old world charm and can definitely be a cute place to get some great shots.

Married at the Grandview this past weekend!

It was everything we had hoped for - with every detail refined, and unsurpassed service. The day couldn't have gone smoother - they were there every single second of the big day, we never - ONCE had to look for them, or be in want. The weather was fab, the food, service, professionalism - all 5 Stars as raved about all over the web!

Good Luck to ya - GV Brides!
