Great Colorado Photographers?

posted 5 months ago in Denver

Hi Colorado brides!!  My FI and I are both from the Denver area, and we're so excited to tie the knot in our beautiful home state.

There's only one tiny problem: we're living in New Jersey and have to plan long-distance.  We are going to be in Denver at the end of July and we want to get most of our big vendors nailed down.

I was hoping some other members of the hive might have suggestions
about great Colorado photographers we could interview while we're home.  I looked at Peter Holcombe's portfolio and website -- he's amazing, but unfortunately out of our price range (we have about $3,000 for photography).  How did you guys pick your photographers?  Did you mostly go by online portfolios, by recommendations from friends, or did you use other ways to figure out which photographer was the right one for you?

I don't remember how I found my photographer (random linking online) but I LOVE her. She is fairly new to weddings so her prices are reasonable, but I think her work is amazing. Her name is Traci Turchin and her website is www.realphotography.com. You can link to her blog and see some recent e-pic sessions and her first wedding of the year. She is based in Colorado Springs but she travels to Denver and Boulder. She and her husband shoot together and they seem to be a really great team.

I chose Traci because I loved her online portfolio and she fit into my budget. Good luck with your search!

Melissa,

We also chose Traci and Nic with Real Photography.  Dan and I met with Traci after being in their photo contest and really liked her personality in addition to the work we had seen on the internet.  Dan was sold at the meeting but it took me a few days to pull the trigger.  Photography is such an important aspect to a wedding and the memories.  But Traci was very patient and informative with all of my questions and concerns.  We have engagment pics scheduled next weekend!

I also looked at Greg McBoat - great prices and enjoyed his website, but he was booked for our date.  Other people we talked to included Marilee Langer and Meg Reul.  Marilee is based in Boulder, Meg in Denver and was fabulous to chat with.  Peter Holcombe has great pictures of Red Rocks which is where we are holding our ceremony so I look at his page regularly, but I did not consider him in my search, largely because of pricing.  I have also heard good things about Lindsay B Photography but she was also booked.

Good luck!

Thanks karasue!  We are excited to met Nic and let them work their photography magic.

What do you as a science consultant?

Oooh, thanks for the suggestions!  Traci & Nic and Greg McBoat are definitely going on my "must call" list.

I also really like the online portfolio at CandyApplePhotography.com -- no price list though.  Has anyone heard of this team?

sarahdan - I work in human health risk assessment, and help prepare senior scientists to provide expert testimony in litigation that involves science, among other things. I haven't really figured out the most succint way of describing what I do yet. :)

Back to photography: I am actually doing a boudoir session with Traci this week! I hadn't planned to do one until I read Mrs. Onion's post and it sounded kind of fun. We had our engagement session in May. I also had Traci design a photo board -- basically a poster board with four of our e-pics and lots of white border -- to use as a guest book.

we are truly lucky to have great photographers who live in the area..RealPhotography is awesome and have been getting raves from the local knot board,as well as greg mcboat. If you are still looking for more photographers check out www.elegant-image.com( ross and kammi bothwell). They are husband and wife team that was highly recommended by our wedding planner. We really like them cause they were so laidback and fun plus their pictures are awesome and very affordable.

BTW sarahdan...i voted for you during the real photography contest.

MelissaB!  Check out www.stevestantonphotography.com  I live in Houston and was considering flying him out for my wedding.  He's a really nice guy, I only chose someone else because I found a crazy promotion that I couldn't pass up.

Good luck!

She's on the border of your budget, but Charlotte Geary is really good.  She also designs some awesome albums.

Our wedding photographer is Maureen Sullivan of Sullivan Studios (www.sullivanstudios.com).  We just did our engagement photos with her, and I am IN LOVE!  She's a lot of fun to have around, and her images are incredible.  After the wedding, she personally edits the photos (and apparently her fine arts education & natural eye for things makes her great at this).  Despite her extensive training, she's totally cool & down to earth.  She's based in Boulder but is shooting our wedding in Estes Park, so I'm sure Denver wouldn't be a problem either.
