@kataubrey: Hello! I live in Greece so I can help you out here.

June is a lovely month to visit because it is warm and beautiful but still not crazy high season and the prices are a bit better.

You can DEFINITELY do Santorini on a budget and it’s worth it- there are many many budget accomodations there- I recommend you stay in Oia. Ive stayed at Angel Cave Houses before and we had an amazing time- but check out reviews of hotels yourself at http://www.tripadvisor.com and enter Oia, Santorini in their search engine.

That is just such a gorgeous place but the beaches are not the best Greece has to offer…I say spend some time in Santorini and then take a boat to either Crete, Naxos or Mylos for better beaches. Koufonissia has AMAZING beaches but has little to no nightlife and just a few taverns- I’m not sure if that would bother you. It is very very low key, not many shops and stimulation…but maybe that would be a good balance with Santorini. Mylos also has amazing beaches and a little more “life” but you need a car.

I totally loved Amorgos!! OMG, ABSOLUTELY breathtaking! Also Kos is really pretty, and touristy, but still full of gorgeous ruins and you can easily rent a bike and tour around the whole area. Also it’s very close (like 30 minutes by boat) to Bodrum Turkey, you can get a day visa and it’s awesome to walk around the markets.

If you to Kos you have to stay here, a family run hotel that’s just so darling and comfortable and SUPER cheap: http://www.afendoulishotel.com/

I agree, Santorini is a must & you can totally do it on a budget! In reality your hotel will prob be one of your main costs b/c the food & wine are so afforable!

The only other place we went to was Mykonos – and I would only suggest Mykonos if you get a wild party streak. It is def more of a party island vs. peaceful and quiet 🙂

We are going to greece too! but not until September, i wish it would hurry up and get here i can’t wait!

We are flying straight to Santorini, then to Paros, then to Athens for a couple of nights, i’m so excited! i would recommend checking out tripadvisor.com, there are some local experts who make really good recommendations. One of the things they recommended was doing Athens at the end of your trip and going straight to an island when you get in.. you should definetely check it out!

We are staying at Villa Ilias in Firostefani (Santorini) – they do agreat honeymoon package and its not as expensive as some of the Oia hotels we looked at.

Happy planning!

@kataubrey:I would say don’t go to Ios-I’d never go there on my honeymoon. If you want a party place, better to go to Mykonos- but Mykonos is pretty expensive.

I’d say go to Athens-Santorini- and pick an island close to Santorini to work in- Naxos, Amorgos, or Milos. (Or go to Mykonos if you want a real party scene and the cosmopolitan feel).

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Greece, so I can’t really remember specific hotels and whatnot. I will say that if you can make it to Nafplio (in the Peloponnese, first capital of modern Greece), try to. It is gorgeous, charming, and has an amazing gelato shop! Have fun on your honeymoon!!

@southerntransplant:  Second Nafplio!  If you’re spending any time on the mainland, it’s amazing.

We’re going for our honeymoon as well, in September.  I’ve been to Athens and Nafplio, but never to any of the islands.  I think we’re going to go to Crete and Santorini.  From what I’ve heard, the volcanic crater and black sand in Santorini aren’t really all that comparable to other islands and are definitely worth paying a premium for.  Hopefully that’s right!

I think Mykonos is worth a visit for at least a night or two.  It is a little bit of a crazy party island but it is what you make of it.  You can choose to get mixed up in all the partying or you can quite easily avoid it.  Personally, I thought Mykonos Town was the most gorgeous of all the Greek island villages I visited.   Ios was ok but nothing special, and of course you’re already well versed on Santorini, which truly is awesome.

Be prepared for a gastronomic feast whilst you’re there, I’m already salivating thinking about the yummy food we had there!!!  🙂
