We did Italy and Greece for our honeymoon last year.  We didn’t use an agency.  Just booked everything ourselves with lots of research.  It was fairly easy especially with reviews from Trip Advisor.

I would say you won’t need more than a day in Athens so make that your transit city to fly into our out of.  We loved Santorini and Mykonos.  In Santorini I would advise against staying in Thira, (although visit the area).  Oia is the nicest and priciest area to stay in with Imerovigli being the next nicest.  We rented a 4 wheeler on both islands which allowed us to explore the islands and beaches at our own pace. Driving around and stopping at various beaches and wineries and sites was probably our favorite part of visiting the islands.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions I can answer for you.

@Meowkers:  We are considering Greece and Italy!  I will have to get some info from you 🙂 Greek Isles and Amalfi Coast specifically.

I agree that everyone I spoke to says to not spend time in Athens as there’s nothing to do there. A friend recently came back and said to avoid the sunset in Oia as it’s very crowded. Instead go to the southern part of the island. Parissa is of decent price and quiet. You can do a day trip for $25 which includes hiking, hot spring, and a bit of island hopping that ends in Oia. Renting an ATV or scooter is a great way to get around. We’ll probably research and plan on our own, although we do have plans to meet a couple of local travel agents around here. Be interested to hear if anyone recommends a specific agency!

I know people who have used Fantasy and loved them. I just got married in Greece – did Crete, Santorini and the mainland. I would recommend a short stay in Oia..the food is so so. Crete is FANTASTIC, and I have friends who swear by Mykonos.

Google Matt Barrett’s Greece – tons of info there and he talks about Fantasy I think.

We booked Greece for a late first year anniversary trip. We went through Kivotos Travel agency, and dealt with Despina. She has been great so far and I think she is based out of Santorini. Althought she does not book the airfare, just everything from when we land in Greece. We are staying 2 nights in Athens and 4 nights in Santorini- the trip was about $3,700 total. We are leaving Sept 7th. Her price was the cheapest and really worked with us on our budget and priced out a few different options.

I am also trying to book our honeymoon to Greece for June 2013 and was referred to Mediterra Holidays by a friend who just booked her honeymoon.  Has anyone completed a trip through them?  We are also thinking about trying to incorportate a day or two in Istanbul.  Has anyone been there and had good or bad experiences?  Or know good things to do? Thanks!

I am from Rhodes, Greece and ABSOLUTELY LOVE going when I can! Look up Lindos Greece. Its so amazing and beautiful! Santorini is also a MUST SEE! Mykonos is beautiful as well but more of a party scene. The castles in Rhodes are amazing and the food is awesome as well! Good luck and have fun in Greece!!!
