I think we have narrowed our honeymoon choices down to these two destinations. Most of the Caribbean is out as it will be hurricane season, but I would welcome any other suggestions.
pros: FI has never been there, it will be off season so there won’t be crowds, we could do cultural activities and still have beach time, and it’s super cool.
cons: it is 20-40% more expensive, it’s a much longer flight, we may feel too obligated to see everything to really relax, and it might be too cool for beach weather.
pros: The weather is almost always nice, it would be very laid-back, it is cheaper and quicker to get there, and it was the first place we traveled together.
cons: There isn’t a lot to see or do there, we’d still have to take 2 flights to get there, and it may be crowded.
I know they are two extremely different choices, but I’d appreciate any feedback or suggestions!

Greece was our first choice for our honeymoon, but we decided against it because it their current financial crisis. Here’s an article that outlines the issues that may arise from traveling there this year, but nothing is concrete, you could still have a wonderful trip, but we decided to hold off. http://gogreece.about.com/od/planagreattriptogreece/a/greece_financial_crisis_travel.htm

I say Greece. Its your honeymoon! Aruba is much more accessible so you’re more likely to be able to visit for a later trip. I know about a handful of people that have gone to Greece lately and the financial crisis didn’t affect them at all. There are protests here and there, but they are mainly outside govt buildings where you wouldn’t be (or I wouldn’t expect you to be, as a tourist…) anyway. Sometimes public transportation (buses) go on strike, but that happens anywhere and everywhere.
For travel, I always use the forums on Fodors.com. So many experts that can advise you on both countries!

I should add that, when we have time, we do a lot of overseas traveling. I lived in Europe for a few years before meeting FI, and together we’ve traveled to China, Spain, UK, etc.. So, on one hand, we’re perfectly comfortable spending time somewhere like Greece and won’t be bothered by language or cultural barriers. On the other hand, it’s not like this is our only opportunity to go to Europe or like it would be some grand new experience for us (besides, of course, the honeymoon aspect, which would be true anywhere we go).

In october i would say Aruba or some where else in the caribe where there is a little bit more to do if that’s wat you are looking for.
Greece is beautyful, much more than Aruba but i would prefer to go in a time where you can go to the beach for sure.

I feel like this is a no brainer…Greece. Duh! Us Americans have the caribbean so accessible, if you have the opportunity to do something else, take it.
DH and I considered Greece for a trip this year, but the flight is nearly full (I work for an airline). So the financial situation isn’t hurting tourism. You will likely catch a non stop flight from a major eastcoast airport. From here it’s overnight at 10 hours, so you will sleep through most of it and wake up in Europe. Not an awful flight. Plus a 2ish hour flight to the coast from where you are.

@Cookie86: Yeah, I’ve been looking for somewhere else in the Caribbean where there’s more to do, but most places are at risk of having hurricane problems in October. It’s not especially likely that any given island will be hit, but we’d hate to but a honeymoon at a resort on any certain island and then not be able to go.

Definitely Greece!!! It’s so beautiful, the food is amazing, the people are very friendly and laid-back…and there’s just so much to do and so many potential adventures. I could never get bored traveling around Greece, I love that country.

Greece 10000000% Athens sucks though. Cruise around the island and spend a few nights in Santorini

I’m definitely biased, because FI and I chose Aruba for out honeymoon. We chose it because the price is incredible for what we’re getting, plus it’s an extremely short flight (3 hours). We’d love to go to Greece someday, but after all the stress of the wedding, the last thing I’ll want to do is sit on a plane for 11 hours!

That’s true. Maybe you can consider Curacao, much more culture and an European vibe but also in a safe zone and terrrific weather.
