My FI and I decided on Cyrpus (the Greek side of the island) for our honeymoon. His father is a Cypriot born Armenian and my parents vacationed there for their honeymoon, too so it's become something sentimental for us to go there. But I'd love to visit Santorini if Cyprus wasn't already decided. I would put that on my list if I was to go island hopping!
I've been to both Greece and Croatia - you'll get more for your money in Croatia, though Greece probably has a greater quantity of luxury hotels and facilities.
However, they're much of a muchness to be honest! Both have amazing food; in any beach/luxury resorts, culture will be limited but there should be plenty of water sports, diving, excursions etc.
The North East coast of Corfu is absolutely stunning (no sandy beaches but crystal clear water and very classy), and from there you can visit Albania (highly recommended), Paxos and Antipaxos via sea plane (stunning, stunning beaches in Antipaxos - pic below), an abandoned village called Old Perithia and Corfu Town, which is a bit shabby but very beautiful in its way. Just don't go to the South Coast - tacky in the extreme!
Hvar or Korcula would be good choices for Croatia, IMO.

Looking out towards Albania from NE coast of Corfu:

As a European, I'd definately say Croatia! Beautiful unspoiled nature, long coastlines, thousands of islands and even mountains for extreme sports fans. Greece is so seen and done, "touristy" would be word I guess. I don't know anyone who has NOT been to Rodos/Kos/Crete. But I agree with doorstopper, Greece would probably have more luxury hotels but Croatia is cheaper.
In Croatia I'd visit Dubrovnik (most beautiful coastal city, old town protected by Unesco) and Hvar (really romantic I hear). Just don't photograph police or army, and remember they're cathlics if you visit churches etc. :)
Croatia. Just as (or more!) beautiful and your money stretches further there.
@doorstopper: Definitely not too many pics! haha. They're lovely.
Thanks for the tips and advice so far! Keep it coming :)
Croatia!!!! And I've only been to Zagreb! We loved it and can't wait to go back and see Dubrovnik and Split. You can get from the city to the coast more easily than trying to navigate Athens and the islands. Plus besides the Acropolis Athens is big and dirty. Zagreb is beautiful- fly in there and spend a night or two downtown
I've also been to both Greece and Croatia (we got married and honeymooned in Dubrovnik, Croatia) and Although the money is bluer in Greece, Dubrovnik is where I would go. It is BEAUTIFUL...I would start with Plitvice lakes and head on down to Dubrovnik. We went to Greece and It was not bad at all (I currently live in Europe now where my husbands from) the seafood was great, the beaches were cool...but it was a lot more going on in Croatia. I think you will enjoy it. I would look for a hotel in the Lapad Beach area, if your dead set on hotels...we did a condo that was a 3 min walk to the beach with resturaunts right below our balcony...It was a dream wedding and honeymoon :)

Hi Bees!
I need your help!
We have been thinking for the past few months that we would go island hopping in Greece for our honeymoon. But a friend suggested Croatia the other day which is also somewhere we both have on our list of places we really want to go to so that's really appealing.
We definitely want to have a luxurious honeymoon (as much as we can afford anyway). We've done lots of budget or mid-level traveling and want to go luxe for this one time in our lives.
Something to note, we get bored easily without anything to do. We spent 2 weeks on the beaches in Tanzania/Zanibar and it was beyond incredible. But we did at times wish we had more to do sight seeing or adventure wise. So that's my worry about Greece islands.
We just have 2.5 weeks so I don't think I want to overextend ourselves by trying to do both. We are flying through Istanbul so we will likely spend 2 or 3 days there as well.
Also, if you've been to either or both, please please give me your suggestions for what to do there below!
