For our honeymoon we were looking forward to going to Greece this summer.
However with the strikes etc, is it a good idea? We will be staying away from Athens, but the ferry strike for example would definitely effect the islands too…
What do you think? Have any of you changed your plans because of the situation? Should we just stay away from Greece altogether?

I would definately recommend Greece anytime. We book a lot of Greek Island honeymoons, and have had several couples there already this year.
Yes there are strikes. But the Greeks always announce the strikes, so you know it’s coming and can have your travel consultant make alternate arrangements if needed.
The part of Athens where the protests are taking place are several miles away from where the tourist areas. We use hotels in parts of Greece with very narrow streets and lots of shops, which are not conducive to a good protest.
So yes, without a doubt, go to Greece!

I can speak in an unbaised way as I’m a member of the media… hehe… but often these sort of things get super blown out of proportion on TV in newspapers etc.
Take Thailand for example. We were there last year in Bangkok when they were having big trouble and we didn’t even notice a change.
I think you’ll be fine. If you are concerned, why not book a short cruise through the islands? Then you don’t need to worry about ferries at all.

We are going on our honeymoon to the Islands in September. I’m not at all concerned – I agree with Laura – the media blows things out of proportion so I doubt it’s really dangerous or anything. We are spending just a couple days in Athens on each end of our trip but more because we want to spend more time on the Islands rather than because we want to avoid strikes.
Which islands are you going to? We’re planning on visiting Naxos and Santorini. So excited!!
