We were considering going with something edible (e.g. chocolates or cookies) but since the ceremony will be in August and the ceremony outside, it might turn into a melted mess.
Would the seedling favours be a good choice or a waste of money? Also, if anyone has had experience with this type of favour, please chime in. Any experience or recos would be greatly appreciated.
I did seedlings as shower favor for my cousin's shower. I ordered them through the Arbor Day foundation (a non-profit, even greener!).
A few years ago when I did it, they were about $3 a piece and came in a clear plastic cylinder.
To dress it up I made a small tag, I stamped it with a bride, a note saying, "Showers of Happiness Alison," and attached it using ribbon that coordinated with her wedding colors.
People seemed to really like the idea- including my cousin who thought it would be cool to watch the trees grown as her anniversaries passed.
There were some extras, and my dad took and planted them all over our property and we're still watching them grow.
Shona- one thing to keep in mind is the time of year in your choice of tree. The Arbor Day Foundation site can help with planting in structions.
Also- they suggest refridgerating the trees before planting to help keep them from drying out. So if you are really concerned about the heat, you might want to plan to keep them in a cool place until right before the reception.
Here's the link for ordering the seedlings as favors:
Here are a few ideas that I've decided to keep open for options:
http://www.greenworldproject.net to do little trees people can plant (b/c for me the hardest part is getting seeds to seedlings that last past 2 months.
http://www.botanicalpaperworks.com Also, this company has really cool paper and wedding favors. I was planning on doing plantable thank-you notes. They also have neat bucket wedding favor thing.
We're going with seed packets. We got them customized with our names and wedding date. I considered seedlings, but they were too expensive for my budget. I got my favors here: http://www.clyderobin.com/customized_seed_packets/wildflower_wedding_favors/index.html

I'm trying to go with a green theme as in very nature oriented. We're considering giving out seedlings as favours. You can get them with decorated with a ribbon and rose decoration, etc. Here's the link http://www.evergreenmemories.ca/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=32:733c07712c53c926a7bb04e9f3e25f17
