Not sure about green tea and mucus, but if you're TTC I'd lay off the green tea for now as it can interfere with your absorption of folic acid. My obgyn specifically told me not to drink it during pregnancy as folic acid is so important for the fetus - esp. to avoid neural tube defects. It was a total shock to me, so I thought I'd share.
Be careful with green tea, it has a ton of caffine in it. I have to avoid it at all costs due to thryoid conditions.
My understanding is that green tea is supposed to aid in EWCM, not just an increase in CM overall. So it seems odd that you would have an increase in everything. Also, to address some of the PP comments, I also understand that it is okay to drink some green tea while TTC if you are trying to increase EWCM, but that you should maybe drink only a cup a day and then stop after pregnancy is achieved.
@RR: Green tea has caffeine in it, but much less than black teas. I'm an avid green tea drinker. I drank it up until I ovulated, thereabouts. I did notice the mucus changes. I also do Mucinex too. I do agree about stopping it once pregnancy's acheived or during the TWW. I'm on my second week without caffeine. It's tough without it since I feel like I could fall asleep right now.
So the general consensus is that I should definitely not drink a keg of green tea each day. I should probably just do a tall iced green tea. Instead of Trenta. But I am also going to stick to my morning cup of Fertilitea, because I've read so many great reviews on it. My PN vitamin has 800mg of folic acid, and 400mg is the recommended dose I think, so hopefully my green tea won't kill that much of it. But I admit I have a problem, and I'm going to try to cut way back.
@carrieknitscake: My doctor said green tea was an excellent substitution because of the small amount of caffeine. It beats the crap out of a large Diet Dr Pepper every SINGLE morning! There's a Chick Fil A right outside our neighborhood, and I would get one every day because theirs is the best. So I think you're right, and I should definitely stop it in the TWW. That's really going to suck though:( Good luck with your caffeine break. It was hard for me at first, but it got way better very quickly. I mainly miss how fantastic those cold bubbles feel going down my throat. I crave that! I love that! I miss that:(
@hoping: I think it's weird too. I have an RE appt tomorrow. I guess I'll ask him. I'm on clomid too. Wonder if that does anything? Hmmm.
Side bar
hmm....Chick Fil A..what I wouldn't do for one right now!!! Think I can convince my husband to take me to NYU when we're home for Xmas to get one? That's so far away!!!
@jholler25: I miss my green tea and diet coke so bad right now. Oddly enough, I'm missing those more than alcohol right now hoping for a BFP. It's definitely green tea in moderation for TTC. I went to a San Francisco tea shop where they talked about green tea as a no-no for pregnancy because it cleans the system out too well. When I was there, I bought siberian rose tea and a blue tea (herbal) not made from the same leaves as greens, whites, blacks. I've switched to Peppermint tea right now. It's giving me my warm cup of tea during the day feeling. Right now, I just want to pass out on the couch at home. I still don't know if we succeeded this month, but man I'm tired right now.
@regberadaisy: I love Chick Fil A. We now have one in downtown Chicago that I refuse to go to. I prefer them down South when I visit my husband's family. I wouldn't mind an In N' Out burger with some fries right now. Oh, those fries I dream about!
Why??? I would take one any which way I can get them! :)
Never had In N' Out Burgers so don't have to crave those! I am a Coke ADDICT and surprisingly have not craved one, yet. :D
@carrieknitscake: That's basically what I was saying? Be careful with the green tea. You went on to say in your 2 posts that:
It's definitely green tea in moderation for TTC. I went to a San Francisco tea shop where they talked about green tea as a no-no for pregnancy because it cleans the system out too well.
I don't think a lot of people are aware of the caffeine amounts in it. If you're getting a venti or trenta Green Tea, it's a lot of caffeine (going more than once a day, ect).
@regberadaisy: I feel that it takes away the cache and enjoyment of it if I can get it easily. Actually, it's pretty far from where I live, so just commuting there is a bit of a pain. I'm a Coca Cola product fan! I went to the museum last year. Their final exhibit of all of the sodas around the world is fun. I always like how super sweet other countries take their carbonated beverages.
oohh....you are one strong lady. I would probably go once every couple months.
What museum??? The coca cola factory in ATL? I've been to the mecca.
@RR: Yeah, I couldn't imagine drinking a Venti or larger of green tea a day. Before my caffeine ban, I did an 8oz cup of it per the cups they have in the office. I thought that you characterized green tea as having a lot of caffeine in it by nature. I was just pointing out that it's on the lower spectrum of caffeine found in teas with black being the highest and white being the least.
@regberadaisy: The Coca Cola museum next to the Georgia Aquarium. So much fun! We were so wired after visiting it with all of the caffeine surging through us. We were there before Thanksgiving. They had holiday decorations up! So cute! I got a picture with the polar bear!
@RR: Is the recommended amount of caffeine per day 300mg for ttc? I know you have to probably refrain more, because of your tsh levels, but I got worried after reading all the responses and I looked it up, and it doesn't look that bad, but maybe i'm wrong...I think my fertilitea is decaf, but I need to check. What do you think? It's my only source of caffeine. I dropped coffee too last month. And I'm someone usually in a coma until I get coffee. A tall coffee from Starbucks is about 250mg of caffeine. I had figured a cup of coffee and my DDPs were going way over that barrier. The venti iced green tea is only about 125 mg of caffeine. Is that a lot?

@regberadaisy: I think it's worth the trip! I have quit eating the food, just because we had been eating it so much. And it's healthy in general, but I've really tried to eat more organically in the past month or so. My sister is a Biologist and she worked at Tyson chicken farms when she first got out of school. She had to test just about everything that went out of there for bacteria. She said those chickens were so humongous, they were just pumped full of hormones and whatever else to make them large and juicy! I read a lot about eating for fertility and how it can affect your efforts ttc. I decided to try to stop putting as much stuff in my body that was made super-artificially or had a lot of preservatives. I don't know where Chick Fil A gets their meat, and it's delicious, but it's still definitely preserved and possibly "treated" to make sure they grow deliciously:) So when I am finally knocked up, I'll be all over chick fil a again! But No Diet dr pepper:( But you should definitely make the trip. And then come on this post and tell us how wonderful it was!
@carrieknitscake: Wow, you are so strong. Wine is the one thing I cannot give up. I've changed a lot about my diet lately, but I cannot bite that bullet. I totally stole Ramona's line from the Real Housewives of NY, "My blood type is Pinot Grigio!" DH says all the time, "What are you going to do when you're preggers? I just don't know if you can do it." I will. Because I have to. But I've thought about picking up a bottle of that non acoholic wine and just seeing if that could hold me over for 40 or so weeks.

Personally during TTC I cut myself down to 1/2 cup of coffee each day to wean myself. And no caffeine at all during the TWW.
Since I got a BFP a little over two weeks ago I've cut out all coffee & coke. Last couple days I've been very tired and allowed myself a cup of tea w/milk every other day or so. Maybe a snack size chocolate once a week?
Caffeine content adds up fast! It's not just tea, coffee and soda. Chocolate has caffeine, excedrin has caffeine, Coffee ice cream has caffeine, hot chocolate, sports drinks etc, etc.
APA said 200-300 milligrams each day during TTC and pregnancy.

Beware of TMI bomb, but I have a question about green tea. I have basically become totally addicted to iced green tea from Starbucks. This started at the beginning of last month. I don't know what happened. I just became obsessed with it. I gave up Diet Dr Pepper (I drank a large one every day from Chick Fil A- WAAAH!), and I guess the green tea became my vice. I also bought some of the Fertilitea and drink that too. Anyway, last month I had about 3 days of LOTS of ewcm. And I thought possibly increased cm all month. But now I'm on CD 9, and I have a ton of creamy white CM. I expect I'll be up to my ears again in ewcm again this month too, but does drinking lots of green tea increase your CM production overall? Or just the ewcm? I had thought it was ewcm. But I feel kind of, well, I feel wet ALL the time! Is this from the green tea?
Sorry for TMI!
