So while driving home from work yesterday, I looked in the mirror and the sun was shining brightly on my first every grey hair.  I was totally like WTF?!?  OMG!?!?  I just turned 25, I'm too young for this!  So I pulled it out, quickly got over it, and then went on with my life, but it got me wondering...

When did you first notice greys?

I haven't noticed any yet (but I'm still younger than you!) I'm hoping then when I go get them, I wont notice right away since my hair is blonde and maybe it will just kind of blend in... I think my mom started greying rather young, like early 20s she said? My FI on the other hand, was like 19 or 20 or so? He also has black hair so it would definitely stand out more. Oh, but I have found a totally competely black hair before. 100% attached to my head. No idea what happened there! Plucked it out and moved on though. Sorry to hear about the greys!

I pulled the first grey from my sister's head when she was 23. I don't have any yet and I am 31, however, I look, oh, yes I look. I also make the girl that does my hair look and made her swear to tell me when she spies one.

everyone greys differently - it has more to do with genetics than age.

i'm seeing my first greys now - and i'm 39 (sshhh!).  my hair is very dark brown/black, but it is also very thick, so the few that i have noticed have been found because i was hunting for them.

my FI is 30 (fair skinned with light brown hair) and has a bunch of greys sprouting on the top of his head.  he loves them and says he can't wait until he 'greys at the temples.'  men seriously have it so much easier in the aging department. *sigh*

I found my first gray hair about 2 years ago (age 28).  I can totally relate to your initial reaction.  Ha!  Now I search them out about once a week and rarely find any.  I fear they're all lurking at the back of my head, though.  :o)

at the most tramatizing age: 13.  thankfully it was just about a patch of about 10 and it hasn't increased in the last ten years!

I remember when I noticed that I had more than one...about a year ago. Right before my 30th birthday. I have a little patch in the front of my head about about 15-25 or so. I have really dark hair though, so I can really see them. It doesn't really bother me anymore. I've realized over the years that life just gets better the older you get, so I'm cool with them...NOW.

My grandfather turned completely grey at 21. My grandmother was on the pepper side of salt and pepper when she died at 71. Who knows why some people have more?

I spotted my first grey hair when I was in SEVENTH GRADE!! Yes. It's true. However they didn't really sprout until the past year or so (I'm 27). Now I have a ton!! I can't stand it!! It's awful!! I dye my hair now to cover them up but one or two always pops through! If you only found one, do not worry! It could be worse!!

Since I am blonde, if I do have greys, I can't see them!

But, I found a few grays on my FI"s temple the other day!  He made me pluck them.  He just turned 28 : )

I'm also 25- since my birthday in December I've been noticing more and more of them!  Not enough that I think anyone else would notice, but enough to drive me mad.

I found my first when I was 24.  My mom swears she started going gray at 18...on the other hand my dad didn't start until 40...I guess I was hoping I got his hair, but no dice.  (Though in retrospec my hair's failure to be Mediterranean black probably should have been a tip-off.)

I decided a long time ago that if I went seriously gray at an early age I would just dye it black, which is the color I've always wanted it to be.  My natural auburn can't be imitated by a box, and if I can't have that I'd just as soon make a real change.

I have not noticed a gray hair as of yet. This may sound a little gross but I did notice that I have one gray nose hair, lol! I am hoping to be like my Mom. She didn't start graying until she was about 40-ish. I will accept it either way but it would be nice!

I have about 4-5 of them and I'm 31.  I was plucking them out until my hairstylist told me that I should leave them, so that she can color them.

Lillindy, I was just liek you, the first place I noticed them was in the car with the sun roof open.  It must be something about the lighting that makes them more noticable there!

I had an errant one when I was 22 or so but haven't seen one since... it was probably just a random follicle that lost pigment... but OMG I'm SOOOOO scared that the grey is coming soon!  Mr. Peng is 30, and totally has grey hairs!  I'd say 2% of his hair is grey!

I got one at 36, but now I have several right in the temple distribution.  It's incredibly frustrating, so I just pluck the little buggers out... and remain in denial.  I'm not planning on coloring my hair, so whatever I get is what I will have. Grr.

Kate- Though it feels like that, I believe that is an old wives tale.  No scientific evidence to back it up! (thank god)

My hair is SOOO thin (and I lost like 25 percent of it last year during peak wedding stress!  SO GROSS) I cant afford to pluck errant grey hairs!  Thank god for hair dye :)

MsAnnaLytical    March 13, 2010   Orlando, FL--finally with my FI!

You girls are so lucky. I started getting gray hair when I was 17 and it's increased since then. I'm about to turn 23 and consistently have gray hair on the underside of my hair...recently they've started sprouting at the crown of my head which is more problematic. It's genetics. Both of my great-grandmothers were entirely gray by the time they were 30...FI finds this enchanting and hilarious, while it makes me clutch my boxes of hair dye and bemoan my fate. Eep! You better believe I have stock in Honey Golden Brown #28! :)

Just try not to keep going back to check for more... i did (after finding the first one a week before turning 25) and now I am finding them all the time.

     Thank goodness for hair dye!

@doctorgirl:  I'm with you on the plucking!  It's manageable now.  I'll have to stop once the grays come close to outnumbering the black ones.  :o)

I've never colored my hair and don't plan to start anytime soon.

I got my first few around 22. I got a couple more since then but I notice my friends are getting their first greys now and they are getting quite a few all at once and mine have not really increased.

I have a big ol' patch right in the front of my head. They have developed over the past few years, and I am 25. I have very dark hair, so they're noticeable. I pulled a bunch out for the wedding but now they're back!

I tell myself I have hair like Stacy London on What Not to Wear (except that her hair is straight), who has had her front-and-center grey streak since the age of 11, and then I feel better about it. Apparently she has a contract with Pantene Pro-V and in it it says they are not allowed to dye it.

I have had grey hairs since I was about 18.  I am 25 now and more and more keep popping up.  They are pretty noticable at times, but by the way I part my hair, they get covered up by the most part.

my best friend has had a patch of grey hairs near the bottom of her hear line for as long as I can remember (since she was 16), its not noticable unless you look for them and seperate them out. I like to search them out and braid all the grey hairs together ha ha ha she hates it! she also has grey hairs in her eyelashes...shes just an odd one

As for me, no grey hairs as of yet! fingers crossed!

I've had gray hairs since high school. Lucky for me they are under my part and can't be seen unless I pull my hair into a ponytail. I don't think its very uncommon for women with dark or darker hair to have them very early.

if i were to pluck all the grey I had I'd be bald!! I started seeing grey at about 25. I tried to pull a few even though they say you get twice as much if you pluck them. Well am 32 now and I have to dye my hair every 4 weeks!!! YIKES. It is very frustrating! Grey hairs : wedding Icon Sad

I've had a few - literally a few, like three, and I ripped those suckers right out. My fiance is completely salt & pepper though. I have never seen him without grey hair!
