I’m jealous.

I’m turning 30 in a few months and I have a MAD grey streak.  I got my first grey at 16.  For years I just had two of them, but by my early/mid 20s I was developing a good streak.  Unfortunately for me I’m super allergic to hair dye so I just have to live with it.  Boo.  Luckilyl for me it’s stayed a streak rather than going all through my hair… for now.

@cbgg First grey hair noticed at 17! Highfive! It may have started sooner, but a 17 year old Bracelet was, shall we say, not overly attentive of her hair.

@cbgg:  Have you tried dying your hair with henna? or other natural products? Not that there is anything wrong with grey…

I have had a couple sprout up… I name them after my old job and then pull them out…

I’ll be 30 this year

@Olive27:  I have so many greys and I’m only 23! I get it colored pretty regularly, so the general population doesn’t know about it.

@Olive27:  Started going grey at 18, 30 now and if I didn’t color my hair it would be bad! I have to keep my hair a light color otherwise all you would see is the grey!

@Olive27:  I started going grey in my late 20s (I started an uber stressful job at 27.  And I don’t know if its coincidence or if it actually contributed to the greying, but it all started around that time.) My Dad is white, not grey.  My Grandma went white by 30.  We all have the same thick, curly hair.  So I’m assuming this isn’t going to slow down anytime soon!

To add insult to injury.  My mum is 61 and has about as many grey’s as I do.  Her family just doesn’t go grey.  Sadly, I didn’t get their hair.

I’m 31 and I’ve had to color my hair since I was 17. Apparently it’s pretty common for redheads to go grey/white sooner than other hair colors

@Giraffelover:  I’m super scared to try henna so I haven’t given it a go yet.  It’s a really involved process (boo) and you can’t reverse it or dye over it so it makes me nervous.  I would really like the rest of my hair to stay the same colour and this is difficult to achieve with henna.  I am also not sure if my skin does ok with henna.

Most natural/vegetable dyes don’t cover greys so no go on that route.

I have tried several different chemical based products that are supposed to be better for people with allergies – semi perminent dyes, PPD-free dyes, etc.  All of them have produce the same reaction (a painful, long lasting contact dermititis rash).

So yeah, I’ve tried a few things.  I was really motivated to find something that worked before my wedding but eventually gave up and just parted my hair on the side without the grey streak.  It did the trick.
