    Hi Hive,

My fiance really wants to wear a light grey suit for our wedding. This will work great in our venue and look nice with our deep purple/silver color scheme.

While FI is happy to purchase a new suit for the wedding, none of his three groomsmen are in the financial position to purchase a new suit, and of course, we don't want to put any financial strain on them. When we looked into renting grey suits, all we found was one grey tux from Men's Warehouse, but my FI didn't like it at all. We haven't had much luck finding any other stores with grey suit rentals. Do any of you know of any stores we should try?

As an alternative, two of the three groomsmen already have medium to dark grey suits that they could wear. Do you think it would look okay to have the groom/groomsmen in mismatched/different shades of grey suits? I've seen a few photos of this looking good, but my mother is dead set against it.

    Thanks so much!

You don't say where you live to give ideas for suit rentals.

Mismtached grey suits can look great. Always remember when our mother's don't like an idea, that it's nothing personal, it's just not what they are used to.

    Thanks for the great photos!

We live in the DC area, but our wedding will be in CT. The three groomsmen are scattered across the mid-Atlantic.

I think mismatched could work, especially because all three guys will have matching ties, so that could help tie it all together :-) Thanks again!

We were in a similar situation. The boys still haven't purchased yet, but we've come up with a solution. Our groomsmen are going to be wearing a medium grey suit (all the same), while my man is wearing a lighter grey suit that is a little more expensive. We've done it so that the groom has a white boutonniere, white shirt etc. to match the bride (me) with my white dress, white bouquet etc. The groomsmen will have boutonnieres to match the bridesmaid's colored bouquets. I've seen a photo of a similar wedding party so I will try to find it for you! I think it will look great though. It sort of makes the groom feel special for standing out with his bride :)

At my first wedding, the guys just wore suits--we didn't even have them the same color.  Mismatched grey suits will be fine.

This isn't the photo I was thinking of, but here is a good example :)

    Thanks ladies!

@mrs.peters.to.be, thanks for the photo! I think those suits are actually the Men's Warehouse grey rental suits I mentioned. They're really not bad looking at all, but FI didn't like the fabric-covered buttons or lapel. It's too bad...it would be so easy if he liked them better, but of course, I want him to love what he's wearing :-)

For anyone dealing with a similar issue, Joseph A Bank is having a great online sale through this weekend (65% off suits, though I think it's online only). This brings the price of some of the suits down to only about $50 above the cost of renting! We're heading over shortly to check them out in person.

    Just a little PSA :-)

We're also looking for grey suits for our groomsmen, and I think I've mentioned this before on a different thread, but we're probably going to go with StudioSuits.com.  They do custom-made suits made out of a terry rayon fabric for $99/suit and then only $15 in shipping.  I just received some fabric swatches from them, and it seems perfectly fine.  We're probably going to order just one suit from them first, just to see how it is - and then order the rest.

Our guys wore mis-matched gray suits and I thought they looked great!  Especially if some of the groomsmen already own gray suits, I think you should go that route.  Then the guys who do have to buy can choose something suitable to their budget.

Thanks everyone :-) We ended up picking a great medium grey suit for the guys during the awesome sale at Joseph A Bank. It fit their budget and looked great in person. So we'll have the groomsmen all in med grey and the groom in a lighter grey. I'm happy with how it worked out in the end & appreciate everyone's advice & thoughts :-)

I know this has been resolved already but I don't think anyone had already mentioned that your fiance had purchased a beautiful grey suit but what was at Men's Wearhouse was a grey tux (thus the satin on the lapel and buttons.)

    I don't think there's anything wrong with mismatched shades of the same color, but the groomsmen dressed more formally than the groom might be a little bit funny looking (;

My FH only has one grooms man so I'm concerned about them looking too random if they aren't the same suit, although I don't necessarily want it to be too matchy matchy...not sure what to do, although I want them to wear gray.
