Actually my FI and I are buying charcoal grey suits from Friar tux. They're only 139.99 (10 bucks more than the rental) and come with jacket, pants, tie and shirt.
@saraja87: Hi Sara, my name is Sara too:) Can you buy from there out of state, we are in MN? I see they are associated with Savvi Formalwear maybe, we have those here....
But I think the guys wouldn't want to buy if they can't see them in person...:(
@ Gizmo19: I think you should give them a call tomorrow morning, I know you can buy/ship to out of state you just need to submit your measurements as taken by a tailor. You can get fabric swatches of the vest colors but I'm not sure about the suit fabric. if your guys are up for it you can also ask the store to take some photos and email them.
We've seen it in person and it's a really lovely rich dark grey light weight wool, nice quality for being so inexpensive. It's missing some things the rental tuxes come with, the cufflinks, shoes and vest but we decided we didn't want them anyway. And, for the extra 10 bucks our guys definitely wanted to buy even though two of them won't see them in person.
I'm attaching a picture of the suit as we're using it, minus the vest. It's a little tough to see the color since it's a cell phone pic but it gives you an idea.
Whoops, sorry it uploaded sideways. It's right side up on my computer!
@saraja87: Thanks Sara, I'm going to call them tomorrow! It is a little darker than what I was thinking, but hey they would actually get a suit out of the deal, and I think it will fit better than the ones we can rent from MW which is actually the exact same price, $140, and I don't want a vest either, fingers crossed they all have decent shoes though:). We were putting about $25 towards each rental too, so it will be even cheaper for them.
Only thing I worry about is when the suits get here they wouldn't fit, then what, but I'll have to ask Friar that tomorrow. Thanks again!:)
We plan on having the groomsmen wear grey tux's and my FI is going to wear black. I thought it would be good for him to stand out. I cant stand looking at peoples wedding pictures and not knowing who the groom is. Here is a picture so you get an idea. I am sure it would look pretty much the same with a dark grey suit and light grey suits. Sorry the picture is so big. I have no idea how to shrink.

@saraja87: Hi Sara - Which store are you working with? Thanks!
I love the concept of a grey tux! My fiance wanted something different, he didn't want black, or brown... he wanted khaki or grey... we ended up deciding on grey and they are also going to wear grey converse! we're a very modern couple who love different aspects to a wedding. He is from a very small town, and the weddings in his town are all the SAME except different people, so being a city girl I decided it was time to make a huge change to the way a Mercer County, OH wedding was looked at!
@Gizmo19, definitely let us all know what happens with Friar--we are also contemplating various grey suit options but we are not in California either so would love to see if they do work for out of state and how complicated that seems...
We toyed/are still toying with the idea of the groom standing out from the groomsmen as well and I think it can work well although I personally like a more unified look.
I am also very interested in hearing what the store has to say... my FH is concerned with asking the GM to spend so much on a rental but if they can buys suits for the same cost the BM paid for dresses I think thats pretty fair!
I have seen tons of pictures with mismatched greys and they all look fine. I have seen a ton of pictures with mismatched muted tones of grey, brown, khaki and navy, again, it looked fine.
It really comes down to personal preference.
@Gizmo19: Check with Savvi Formal Wear in MN. They sell suit packages too, as well as rent tuxedos.
@snuggles & trueblue39 - Well so far I've gotten another picture sent to me of the suit, below, and I'm just waiting to hear back on how much the shipping would be per suit. Although, if it's a decent amount, I'm probably going to say, since we are buying 7-9 suits couldn't there be some kind of discount. The other thing we need to take into consideration is alterations (after having a long convo with a employee at Savvi I got a lot of good general info). The suits will not come hemmed, however, Friar WILL do that there for them. Once they order the suits from their wearhouse, they will hem the pants in the store for no charge. However, if the suit jacket has to be altered, we'll have to get that done here ourselves, so that may be an additional cost. So I asked the guy at Savvi well what's the point of them getting measured then if it has to be altered (I knew nothing about suits until now), and he said well basically the only way you would need the jacket altered is if the guy is in an in-between size, which when they get measured the seamstress will be able to tell them if they are in an in-between size or not. Even if they are in an in-between size I am not sure how noticeable it will be where they have to get it altered (maybe someone has knowledge on this).
What else, for me I feel more comfortable that Savvi is affiliated with them for some reason, it makes me feel like I'm not just having the guys buy suits from some random store in another state.
@mrformalz - Thanks for the tip, I stopped in there the other day, they do sell a grey suit for $150 I think it was, but that does not include a shirt or tie. The Friar one does. The one they sell is actually the same designer as the one at Friar, which is Giorgio Fiorelli and the guy at Savvi said it's a good designer, which also made me feel comfortable.
I'm also going to find out if there is a specific name for the suit at Friar, just so I can try to look it up online. The guy at Savvi said that it's a pretty good deal for them to include all that.
For those that have Savvi's and want to rent, they have a new grey tux available in April, at least that's when it's available in MN, it's actually a really nice and is a darker grey than the light grey one for rent at MW and at Savvi. The color is perfect actually, a good cross between the two. It was around $150 to rent. However, for us renting may not work depending on how many days the guys will be in Vegas. Plus I go back to the if they are going to spend that same amount, $10 less even and get a suit to keep, I would think that's the better option. Also, I checked out Macy's and Kohls, there is no grey suit that includes a shirt and tie for the price of Friar, not even with their sales. You can find random suits on clearance etc., but it would be pretty hard to find the same one for all of our 7-9 guys at least, seems like way too much of a hassle to me.
Sorry this was so long, and I'll keep you posted once I find out more. As of now, I feel pretty comfortable with going this route though!

I'm so glad the suits are going to work for you too! We're getting our guys measured in the next week or so and are placing our order as well! You really can't beat the price for the whole ensamble. Also, since the suit doesn't come with shoes, they agreed to comp the rental of the shoes for us :)
Dear Gizmo19, my FI and I went to our local MW last weekend and they are having a "buy one get one free" sale through Feb. 21 (Monday). We got his charcoal gray Kenneth Cole suit for $499 and then 5 groomsmen suits in silver gray that retail for $200 each. With the sale, those same suits came to $100 each...a better deal for something the guys can keep. Also, the ties and shirts are also BOGO. We picked up shirts that retail for $40, were on sale for $20 and with the offer averaged to $10 a shirt...I am so happy to have this crossed off the list and can give you the suit item #s if you'd like :)

This is sort of a continuation of this post: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/help-need-opinions-on-grey-bm-dresses-038-tuxes
After looking at endless amounts of weddings with grey suits, I can definitely tell the tux for rent from MW doesn't fit as well as regular suits, they fit fine but just not as well. We are having a destination wedding so we want to keep costs down as much as possible for our attendants, meaning renting tuxes will be the cheapest way to go for the guys.
Since we can have the option of getting up to $400 for a suit for my FI (it's either that or my FI gets his tux rental free), he could wear that suit so that it fits a little better, seeing as the pics that will be most important to us will be of him and I. But we wouldn't want to get him a really light grey suit as he would wear a darker grey one again after the wedding more than he'd wear a light grey one.
So, do you think having a darker grey one would look ok with the GM's light grey tuxes? The other difference will be the tuxes have a satin line down the side of the pants, and on the lapel whereas FI's suit would not have that, would that look weird?
Here's the GM tux, keep in mind there would be no vest, and it would be paired with a black skinny tie, FI would be the same way:
