My FI is going for charcoal tux. Light grey was not that flattering on him, and I hated the black tux/white shirt look for our wedding. So charcoal was our compromise. I can’t show you a pic of him because we’re going to buy the suit in the next few days, but I’ve collected a few inspiration pictures to show FI when he wasn’t sure about going grey :

@Quicksand:  Also I was told no more than 3 colors for a suit. Coral could be your accent color (ex.: tie, pocket fold or boutonniere, socks …)

@Quicksand:  I think tuxedos look best with the matching vest.

I would look for a tie that had coral, grey and champagne stripe or paisley.

FI bought the Vera Wang Black in gray.  (That’s your 2nd picture @NauticalDisaster: ) and let me tell you, it is STUNNING in person.

FI will be having a Tiffany blue tie, but gray vest/suit. We will try the tie on when he gets home from training.  If it looks funky, we may just do black tie with gray vest, and have the blue accent in his flower.

FI will have a matching vest (3-pieces suit) and probably a white shirt. His tie will be purple/blue/black, I found one with the purple exactly matching my dress.

He also has blue cufflinks and tie pin, so it’s not like random blue either. It will all look studied and put together. 🙂

@julies1949:  Agreed. I’ve found a few exceptions that I liked, but overall for a formal look, I prefer when the vest matches the tux.

@LMD:  I believe you ! This Vera Wang is my favorite out of the 3, but we didn’t have the budget for that (I don’t know actually, but I figured out it would be quite expensive if I looked at VW dresses) so we went with a local ”designer store” in Québec called Le Château, they always have very nice casual and formal suits and pretty cocktail dresses. FI’s suit will cost 250$, we found it at their outlet store.

@NauticalDisaster:  It is expensive!  We went to a Bridal Show and gave our info to a Men’s Wearhouse booth.  They sent us an email for 40% off one of our purchases, so we used that on the VW tux.  Got like $350 off, lol.  Woooo~

@LMD:  Oh, well I’m surprised actually, I think 350$ is reasonable for a designer suit like this, plus it’s still a classical look that won’t really go out of style soon, you FH can wear it again. Unlike a wedding dress that you’ll wear once, it’s worth investing the money I think.

Our budget was 250 so we’re breaking even, but I knew it would be a challenge because a quality suit is more expensive than that. We preferred to buy than to rent because we saw it as an investment too.

ETA : Also I read somewhere to look for wool in the material because it doesn’t wrinkle (especially after the meal if you’re sitting 3-4 hours). We found more affordable 2 pieces suits made of synthetic and out of these option, the 3-piece suit with wool was definitely the best purchase although it was more expensive.

@Quicksand:  Renting is a lot cheaper, yes.  Especially if you’re looking at the VW suit.  It’s always cheaper to rent, but to Nautical’s point, suits/tuxes can be seen as investments for future formal events.  It may be worth investing in the purchase of one. 🙂

@Quicksand:  I don’t know. But even if it would have cost, let’s say 150$, we both thought it was a better option for us to just pay that 100$ more and have the suit forever. Plus there’s always the trouble of getting the suit back the day after (which had happened to FI previosuly when he was a groomsman). We’re getting married 1.5 hours away from here, I don’t think we’ll want to rush to the store on Sunday to bring the suit back (or pay penalties and whatever is supposed to happen). We went with the investment and the peace of mind, lol !
