Rinabeens:  I think that colored vests can look a bit “high school prom-ish”. I would encourage all the men to wear a classic black vest that goes with the tuxedo. You can distinguish the groom with a different tie- solid vs patterned or vice versa.

Rinabeens:  I’m doing plum as well. The men are wearing black tuxs, a light silver vest, a plum tie and a plum pocket square. My FI will be wearing the same thing, but with a bowtie instead of a necktie.

I was originally thinking of plum vests as well, but the more I played around with different looks, the more I thought that it was too dark looking with both plum and black.

Rinabeens:  Personally, I like colored ties on the groomsmen and white ties for the groom. 🙂

For your husband, with the black vest, I’d suggest a (proper self-tie) bow tie.  I would also recommend a cummerbund, as it leaves more white shirt exposed than the high cut vest, and it is less formal than a waistcoat, and therefore generally considered more appropriate with a shawl collar (vs. peak lapels, which generally call for a waistcoat).  Just my$0.01.

If you’re doing matching tie/vest in plum for the groomsmen, I’d stick with the four in hand tie, as you are planning.  An alternative could be to get them other plum ties, from http://www.thetiebar.com – the main benefit is that they would properly tied, rather than pre-tied.  You can get a black bow tie there as well.  It doesn’t take much practice to learn to tie it.

If you want a white waistcoat, I’d go with one of these:

You can Ajay possibly find used ones on Ebay, maybe for less. But, I’d still go with a cummerbund.   Either waistcoat will look fine, though, and the black one pictured seems to be fairly low cut, which is good.

I’d go with a white linen pocket square.  If matchy is your thing, the purple would be the standard fare, and week actually look quote nice, I think, with the rest of his rig.

Virtually every Tuxedo question one can ask, when it comes toclassic, traditional styling and details, is answered on blacktieguide.com

However, the only really important question is what does he want to wear?
