I admit, I’m very out of my element with a lot of this wedding planning stuff. I thought I would go very simple when it came to dresses but I ended up falling in love with a long, beautiful ivory gown. My dress hasn’t been hemmed yet in this picture (it’s being shipped to where I live since I went dress shopping with my mom & sister on the east coast).
We’ve rushed through a lot of wedding planning and I know we have to get moving on what my fiance will wear since our wedding is in November. I was wondering if my groom can get away with a very nice suit with this dress. If so, what colors would you suggest? Any suggestions for nice places to buy suits? We’ve looked at JCrew’s website a little bit so far. We’d like to buy his suit rather than rent a tux if at all possible so that he can wear it again. Like I said, I never planned on such a fancy dress but yeah, it happened, haha. Our wedding is pretty laid back even though my outfit is so nice.. but I do want us to match of course. We are having the ceremony inside a beautiful, historical courthouse in Santa Barbara (Mural Room) and then the reception at an outdoor restaurant space during the day. We don’t have a bridal/groomsmen party, wedding colors, or anything like that.

I think your dress would look great with a suit. I think a lot of it has to do with the wedding itself – casual, formal, the venue, etc. If your wedding is laid back then I think a suit would be more fitting.
My FI gets most of his suits from JCrew and Nordstrom. He’s always been really happy with both.

I am wearing a big tulle dress as well. From the very beginning we always knew my fiance would buy a suit instead of wearing a tux. We got his at Macy’s, pretty deeply discounted too!

Maybe this will put your mind at ease! My groom wore a JCrew suit and I think we looked great together!

Suit- rental tuxes often look bad and almost never fit well, IMO. For the money, a suit is a much better investment and will look nicer because it can be tailored to fit him perfectly.

I would go with tux, but it seems like you want him in a suit more – which is fine too! Go with a black suit, and black skinny tie to up the formal factor a bit. J Crew is a good source, but also check Macy’s and whatever other department stores might be near you. Look at Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, and Kenneth Cole.
