I’m trying to surprise my groom with a cake, probably shaped like an inline skate or if that is too complicated a hockey puck. It’s not a tradition where he’s from, but I think he’ll be pleasantly surprised.

My cousin had one shaped like a cowbell and he rang a cowbell right before he cut it. The other weddings I’ve been to have not had groom’s cakes.

This was the groom’s cake at a wedding I went to recently. The groom cut it with a two-handed sword!

Those Texans out there will agree with me that Texas A&M can be somewhat cultish. So, its no surprise that when my cousin Nik got married, his groomscake was modeled after the legendary Kyle Field.

This cake was HUGE…it stood 2 feet tall and weighed so much it took 4 guys to move it. Talk about Aggie Pride. This thing was ridiculous and definitely outshone the Brides Cake (which had camo ribbon on it a la My Big Fat Redneck wedding, but classier).

I’m at work, so I don’t have a picture (maybe I’ll post it later)!

We had a grooms cake for the rehearsal dinner and it was home baked by some woman who doesn’t speak English and misunderstood what we were looking for.  She thought it was for a bachelor party and she sent it to my parent’s home with a cake topper of a naaked lady crouching down.  If I can find a picture of that cake I promise to post it.

I jokingly told my FI i’d get him a groom’s cake with zombies in Ram’s helmets on it

I’d never do it of course, but it’s pretty funny to think about. He kept saying, "what if the zombies eat you when we’re trying to serve the cake" and being dumb, so I gave up. He’s got an obsession with zombies. I bought him Pride & Prejudice & Zombies and he loved it. Weirdo.

Here’s a picture of the cake that FI liked. We talked about making it one layer only, instead of three. And just putting the carved heart on top of the cake. Or leave the heart on the side, and putting our camo cake topper on top. It might be cute like that.

I think the cake is cute regardless. It’s just different. What do you think?
